Andy Biersack and John Feldmann talk My Chemical Romance, Andy Black album, more

In the third installment of the Musicians Institute conversation series with Andy Biersack and John Feldmann, the conversation touches on the new Andy Black record, tour, collaborations and of course, the Bengals.

Andy begins this part of the series talking about collaborations with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Gerard Way and Matt Skiba with limitless side-stories that popped up along the way.

“I’ve always said that I missed the boat on [My Chemical Romance],” Biersack says. “I feel like I got into them later because at the time I thought when they were super popular, I was the dickhead that was like ‘I only listen to punk bands nobody has heard of.’”

Andy elaborated on working with Gerard for the new Andy Black album and being a fan of everything Gerard has done.

“I unfortunately missed so much of the greatness that is My Chem,” he says. “To have this song that we wrote together, and to watch him singing in the booth and to hear his voice, it was just so cool and there were just so many moments on this record that were that way.”

Andy says he thanks Feldmann every day for allowing Andy to put together so many important musicians for the Andy Black record.

“This record in many ways is like 2004-2005 Andy dream team,” he says. “At that point in my life I was like ‘I’m going to assemble everyone that is great, and I’m going to make a record’ and this is kind of that record for me.”

Andy touches on album release and tour details before they begin taking questions from the audience, where he and Feldmann discuss Andy at 15, choosing songs to keep on the album and more. —Sarah Force
