Violent New Breed (ex-Escape The Fate) show it’s “Worth It” in melodic new song

Post-hardcore act Violent New Breed, which features former Escape The Fate bassist Max Green, are gearing up for the release of their debut full-length, Bad Reputation. With the album less than a month away, the band are teaming up with AltPress to share their next single, “Worth It.”

After parting ways with Escape The Fate and a short stint with Falling In Reverse in 2014, Green began Violent New Breed the following year. Shortly after its launch, he gave a preview of the new project with several demos including “Only The Strong Survive,” “Casket Dream” and “Devil’s Deal.”

In 2016, they embarked on their first tour and issued a self-titled EP with Green on bass and vocals. The band kept relatively quiet over the next few years, resurfacing in 2018 to announce they were heading to the studio.

In May of this year, they returned with Green on bass and an entirely new lineup—vocalist/guitarist Sean Russell, guitarist Shawn McGhee and drummer Charlie Nicholson. The band marked the explosive comeback by recruiting former Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones for “Bury Me,” their first single off Bad Reputation.

Following second single “Before I Fall” in August, they’re now sharing a third, “Worth It.” The new track mixes emotion-tinged melodic vocals with face-melting riffs, striking the perfect balance. That balance was also felt in the studio, with Green revealing the production solidified his excitement in his new lineup.

The song has an extra special meaning to me, being this first track that was written while Sean Russell and I were still living in the Midwest,” Green explains. “At the time, he had yet to meet Shawn McGhee and only knew of him through what I had told him, but as soon as we sent the song to Shawn and he sent it back with his ideas, it was like I could already feel the chemistry together from 3,000 miles away, and I knew I was right in my instincts that the three of us would be able to create some really cool new music together. McGhee is great at being able to focus in on an emotion and meaning when it comes to writing lyrics, and we pulled together some very honest, very real words on this track.”

McGhee echoed the sentiment, explaining the feeling the track gave him upon first listen and how late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington inspired the structure.

“I really loved how hard it hit you right out of the gate,” he says. “I remember Max and I in the studio late one night, writing lyrics and melodies. At the time, we were really listening to a lot of Linkin Park. I love how big Chester’s choruses would start off and how long he would hold his notes. This chorus came together literally at the last second while Max was going into the booth. I literally pushed him aside and laid down the chorus. I felt like I stole his lunch money.”
