Back in May, it was announced that the North American Hella Mega Tour was being postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Shortly following this, the rescheduled 2021 dates for the North American run were released. As well, the bands also rescheduled their U.K. and European run for next year.

Now, even more dates are being canceled. The Hella Mega Tour in Australia and New Zealand was set to kick-off on Nov. 8. However, due to the pandemic and travel restrictions, the bands have been forced to cancel the scheduled shows.

In a joint statement, the bands say that the decision to cancel the Australian and New Zealand dates is in efforts to keep crew and fans safe.

“Australia and New Zealand, we’re beyond bummed to announce that the upcoming Hella Mega dates in November have been canceled,” the bands say.”We kept trying to put this piece of the puzzle together, but unfortunately, it’s just not possible due to the uncertainty of the government COVID-19 travel restrictions, mass gathering and most importantly for the safety of our fans, crew and staff. Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase.”

Although it is unknown if the canceled dates will be rescheduled for next year, the bands say that they will return to New Zealand and Australia soon.

“We love you all and we’ll be back there rocking with you at some point. Until then, stay safe.”

Back in February, Green Day were one of the first acts to postpone tour dates amid coronavirus concerns. Set to embark on an Asia run throughout March, the band made the decision to push the shows to March 2021. Since then, all of the remaining 2020 dates of the tour have been pushed back to next year.

Despite these setbacks, the bands are determined to bring the Hella Mega Tour to fans at some point. Prior to the postponement of the tour dates, Pete Wentz reassured fans that they will get to see the Hella Mega Tour.

“I would say that this tour may not happen exactly at the time or when it was supposed to happen or how it was supposed to happen but the tour will happen,” he says.
