While Billie Eilish has certainly proved herself to be a Spice Girls diehard, the musician recently admitted that she originally thought the iconic girl group were a fictional band.

According to NME, Eilish believed the Spice Girls were completely made up for the 1997 movie Spice World.

Eilish originally admitted the fun fact on Capital FM, saying she thought the Spice Girls were made for the flick and not the other way around. Additionally, the musician only recently found out the truth.

“I thought all the music was written for the movie,” Eilish says. “I thought all the characters were cast for those characters. I didn’t figure it out until two years ago.”

Additionally, last week on Ellen, Eilish elaborated on her recent revelation.

“I watched that movie like 40 times,” Eilish says. “I remember seeing something about the Spice Girls and thinking, ‘Oh my god, they’re re-enacting the movie.’”

You can watch Eilish’s appearance on Ellen, where she talks about social media validation from Justin Bieber and her experience with Tourette syndrome, below.

As mentioned in her Ellen interview, Eilish eventually became a big fan of the Spice Girls movement. About a month ago, Eilish shared a photo of her and Sporty Spice to her Instagram story.

Additionally, Sporty Spice, aka Melanie C, shared her perspective on Eilish’s influence and talent while seeing her sold out show in London.

“Billie is an extraordinary talent and seeing young girls screaming with her every move and singing every word of her lyrics, gave me goosebumps,” Melanie C says in an Instagram post. “Billie Eilish you are a phenomenon and I salute you. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!”

Just for kicks, you check out the trailer for Spice World below.
