Yesterday, Deftones announced the lineup for their second annual Dia De Los Deftones festival featuring CHVRCHES, Gojira and more. However, Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta voiced his opinions on the lineup order, not agreeing with having CHVRCHES listed as second on the bill.

Jasta took to Twitter wanting to know “why the fuck” the band was playing over Gojira.

“Who is churches with a v and why the fuck are they playing over Gojira get tha fuuuuuck outtta here have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe you’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes.”

He then added, “Update: googled Churches w/ a v, they gotta be huge they did a song with a guy w/ a Marshmallow mask and people LOOOOOVE IT. Good for them.”

CHVRCHES vocalist Lauren Mayberry retweeted Jasta’s remark adding one of her own.

“Deftones curated the lineup so I don’t know how that speaks to problems with The Music Industry. I think it’s important and powerful that they promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre.”

She then replied to the Hatebreed vocalist directly.

“I saw Gojira in Glasgow years ago and have seen Deftones three times so was excited when we got asked to be on the bill. Just because someone plays or listens to ‘pop music’ doesn’t mean they don’t understand or appreciate other things.”

While not directly replying to Mayberry, Jasta continued with his tweets regarding the lineup this morning.

“I’m sure they’re lovely people and a popular group, I don’t agree with the line up order, same w/ other festivals, if anyone is butt hurt about my opinion wait til you hear the podcast! Metal needs to be shown more respect. Longer career, legacy, more albums, bill em higher.”

He then added a few more tweets including, “Bands that play their instruments > track acts. #Facts.”

As well as, “Props to Chvrches booking agent though, that’s a gangster power move haha.”

“Haha some folks don’t like facts &/or they twist what I say, whatever,” the Hatebreed vocalist tweeted. “Diverse lineups are great but whoever u are, if your agent power moves u above a crusher, good luck! I remember (band I wont name) somehow got to play after FFDP in AZ, it was a BAD lol. Hasn’t happened since.”

Whitney is your definition of pop punk trash. If she's not jamming to State Champs or Grayscale, then she's probably out enjoying the finer things or working a show for Fearless Records as a Street Team Leader. She's a realist and an optimist, calling the city of Columbus her home. A huge fan of naps, Whitney often falls asleep in a city that doesn't. She's not hard to please, finding joy in discovering new bands or playing Everlong on the late night radio. Working at Alt Press and breaking ground in the music scene have always been a dream of hers, telling herself at an early age she was down for losing it all to make that happen! Now the weekend writer at AP, Whitney is prepared to be noticed and eager to contribute to the scene. If you catch her at a concert feel free to stick around, make small talk, or discuss her overuse of State Champs lyrics and song titles in her bio.
