Gerard Way is keeping himself busy with his comic book endeavors and working on the forthcoming second season of Netflix‘s The Umbrella Academy. The former My Chemical Romance frontman hasn’t shied away from music completely with the release of a few solo songs over the years.
Now, it looks like Way has been recruited to score the upcoming Clerks 3 film.
According to Slash Film, writer and director Kevin Smith revealed the news while currently on the road promoting the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
Per /Film reader Mario R, Smith stated that Gerard Way would be scoring Clerks 3.
The news comes not long after Smith announced the once-dead movie would be getting revived and was currently back in development.
“@jaymewes, and I spent Saturday signing stuff and catching up, seeing so much movie merch that’s been made over the last 25 years,” Smith writes on Instagram.
“But even better than that? We talked about making a movie together. It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga.”
He adds, “It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of #newjersey. It’ll be a movie that stars Jeff and @briancohalloran, with me and Jay in supporting roles. And it’ll be a movie called CLERKS III!”
Smith recently offered some insight on the plot of the forthcoming film which will follow the story of Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson).
“Randal has a heart attack, decides that he came so close to death, and his life has meant nothing, there’s nobody to memorialize him, he has no family or anything like that. And in the recovery, while under fentanyl, he comes to the conclusion at mid-life, having almost died, having worked in a movie store his whole life and watched other people’s movies, he tells Dante, I think we need to make a movie. So Dante and Randal make ‘Clerks.’ That’s the story of ‘Clerks 3.”
