For Oct. 3, the Mean Girls cast reunited for a rare reunion and a lot of secrets were spilled.
It’s hard to believe its been 16 years since Mean Girls was released. The 2004 film is still widely popular in pop culture today and remains one of those high school comedies we can’t seem to let go of.
The majority of the Mean Girls cast reunited for a rare reunion over the weekend. Chatting with Katie Couric over video chat, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, Lizzy Caplan and Jonathan Bennett were among the cast members that came together to talk about the beloved film.
A lot of behind-the-scenes secrets were spilled during the reunion including why Lohan wasn’t too keen on Cady at the start of filming.
“I really wanted to play Regina,” she shares. “I had just done a movie [called] Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen where I was kind of a weirdo in it.”
She shares that she wanted to be in a movie where she could be “pretty” and “dress pretty.” However, as Lohan continued to read the Mean Girls script, the character of Cady slowly grew on her.
“I started to really relate to Cady and you know her sensitivity and the trapeze of emotions that she goes through and everything she explores through the character. It was almost like me. During the process of filming for me in between the movie I had done before and Mean Girls, I had gone back to regular school. It was a really weird transition for me then.”
Bennett, who played Aaron Samuels, also revealed that he almost wasn’t cast in the film. A few days before production began, he was flown in at the last minute to take on the role.
“I was actually cast like last minute, right Tina?,” he says. “I was flown up the night before because they did like a switch or something.”
Fey candidly shares that the original actor cast as Aaron Samuels was fired which led to Bennett joining the cast. However, she doesn’t reveal who the original actor was and why they were fired.
As we all remember, Cady and Aaron ended up together at the end of the film. However, Fey isn’t convinced it was truly happily ever after.
“I think they’re Facebook friends,” she says. “I don’t think they ended up together. I wouldn’t want a pair of characters who got together in high school to end up together. I hope they lived a little more than that.”
