It’s safe to say we were all on the verge of tears as we watched the trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of our beloved classic, The Lion King. Now, just as we’ve started to dry our tears and finally regain our composure, we have a side-by-side comparison of the new trailer to its 1994 counterpart.

Disney caught us all off guard as they dropped the first official trailer for the upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King. While most were beyond ecstatic to see their favorite childhood Disney film come to life in such impressive quality, there were a few fans that expressed some concern.

It seems the live-action trailer is a shot-for-shot remake of the 1994 original, leaving some to wonder if this is going to be more of a very straightforward remake as opposed to a “re-imagined” version like many had assumed.

Comparing the two trailers side-by-side shows how director Jon Favreau created a nearly identical trailer to the 2D version. The shot of Pride Rock, Simba being held out for the animal kingdom to see… no wonder we were all hit so hard in the throwback feels.

Some believe the first trailer was intentionally created for nostalgia purposes since there is still no official confirmation that the 2019 film will be a straightforward, unchanged remake.

Either way, it’s hard not to be excited about the upcoming, highly anticipated film especially when James Earl Jones, who was the voice of Mufasa in the original cartoon film, will be reprising his role in the live-action remake.

Check out the side-by-side comparison below!
