According to Deadline, Warner Bros. have approved Pattinson to play the superhero in the upcoming The Batman trilogy that Matt Reeves will direct later this year.

Originally, the studio was torn between Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult, asking for both actors to be taped before making their decision.

Sources tell Deadline that a meeting happened yesterday and the official decision was made that Pattinson would star in the role. Negotiations are expected to happen soon.

Deadline also reports that this trilogy will have no connection to Ben Affleck's Batman but instead, focus on Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman.

“He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been,” Reeves previously explained. “I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”

The first film is currently slated for a June 25, 2021 release with filming expected to begin this summer.
