See why David Bowie fans are divided over the ‘Stardust’ biopic trailer
The official trailer for the new David Bowie biopic Stardust is finally here and, well, fans are definitely divided on it.
The biopic has been at the center of controversy over the past year after Bowie’s son Duncan Jones made it known that his family never authorized the project or the use of his late father’s music.

Back in 2019, Johnny Flynn was cast as David Bowie in the new biopic Stardust. Shortly after the news broke, however, Jones took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the upcoming project.
“I think this journalist needs to do some investigative reporting,” he tweets. “Pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for any biopic…I would know.”

Now, it looks like the film went ahead as planned despite the lack of approval from the Bowie family. On Wednesday, the official trailer for Stardust was released and offers the first glimpse of Flynn as the legendary British performer.

Directed by filmmaker Gabriel Range, Stardust focuses on the events leading up to Bowie adopting his iconic Ziggy Stardust persona. The trailer follows Bowie as he lands in America for a publicity tour where he continues to test the patience of his publicist Ron Oberman (Marc Maron). The trailer goes on to show how an identity crisis and built-up pressure eventually led to the creation of his Ziggy Stardust persona.
Unsurprisingly, the Stardust soundtrack does not include any of Bowie’s classic songs from the Ziggy Stardust album. After learning about the biopic, Jones further shared that he had no plans to authorize his dad’s music.
“I’m not saying this movie is not happening,” he said. “I honestly wouldn’t know. I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of dad’s music in it, and I can’t imagine that changing. If you want to see a biopic without his music or the family’s blessing, that’s up to the audience.”

Now that the trailer is here, however, fans still have a lot of thoughts. Some fans think it’s wrong that the film went ahead without approval from the Bowie family. Meanwhile, others think that Stardust just falls flat and Flynn wasn’t the right actor to portray the legendary musician.
Just saw the new ‘Stardust’ trailer and as a huge David Bowie fan, I am extremely let down… Tilda Swinton would have been perfect for the role

LOL think we can all agree Bowie would have hated this Stardust trailer. There’s zero imagination in this. Love him but why cast Johnny Flynn?

The trailer for that David Bowie biopic is available and I can’t even bring myself to watch the damned thing. Just boycott the Stardust movie. Bowie never wanted this.

It’s a good job that the trailer for Stardust mentions David Bowie’s name throughout, because I would have had no idea that it was supposed to be him otherwise.
