Kanye West denies he’s being paid to help with Trump’s re-election

Back in July, Kanye West announced that he is running for President of the United States.

Shortly following his announcement, theories emerged that West’s campaign is in efforts to help Donald Trump get re-elected. As well, many believe he is being paid to do so.

West cannot win the 2020 election because he has missed too many state ballot deadlines. A CNN tally shows that West will be included on just 11 state ballots where a total of 83 electoral votes are at stake, well short of the 270 needed for the presidency. Despite this, however, West is still carrying on with his campaign.

Many believe the continuation of West’s campaign is in efforts to help with Trump’s re-election. Since West’s name will appear on some state ballots, it is theorized that his campaign will take away some of the votes that would go to Joe Biden. This would skew the votes and could potentially lead to a win for Trump.

Now, West has gone on record about the theories. In a new interview on Nick Cannon‘s podcast, Cannon’s Class, the rapper denies these rumors. The full podcast episode has not been released yet. However, Cannon did share a few clips from the interview.

In one of the clips, West insists that he is not working with Republicans to help Trump get re-elected.

“People keep on saying, ‘I think that y’all, you and Republicans, are in cahoots,'” West says.

Cannon then brings up the rumors that West is being paid to help with Trump’s campaign.

“They’re saying that they’re paying you to do what you’re doing to be a distraction,” Cannon says.

Despite the rumors, West says no one could pay him to help with Trump’s campaign because he has more money than Trump. Therefore, the rumors make no sense.

“Bro, can’t nobody pay me! I got more money than Trump!”

In the interview clip, Cannon further asks if West thinks that his campaign is “realistic right now in 2020.” In response, West says, “I’m not running for president, I’m walking” which earned a laugh from Cannon.

West’s presidential campaign has sparked a lot of debate regarding his mental health. Shortly following his campaign announcement, his family reportedly told TMZ that his decision to run for president is part of a bipolar episode.

Then, in July, West held his first presidential rally in South Carolina. During the rally, West became chaotic with his speech and his behavior caused many onlookers to worry about his health.

West has been open about his mental health in the past. In 2016, he was hospitalized after displaying erratic behavior. Then, in 2018, he revealed that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

West previously opened up about his diagnosis on David Letterman‘s Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.

“What I want to say about the bipolar thing is because it has the word ‘bi’ in it, it has the idea of, like, split personality,” he says. “Well, that works for me because I’m a Gemini, but when you ramp up, it expresses your personality more. You can become almost more adolescent in your expression or border into places. This is the specific experience that I’ve had over the past two years because I’ve only been diagnosed for two years now.”

Cannon’s full interview with West arrives Tuesday, Sept. 1.
