The visual that accompanies the track takes viewers through a maze of eerie hallways, ghost-infested woods and whirling clouds. The blurring of scenes creates a unique, hypnotic viewing experience.

The Metallica Blacklist is scheduled for a Sept. 10 release via the band’s own label, Blackened Recordings. The record will feature a plethora of artists covering songs from their 1991 self-titled album, also known as The Black Album.

100% of the profits from The Metallica Blacklist will go to charity. Half will go to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, and the other half will go to a charity of each artist’s choosing.

Metallica also previously expressed their desire to see the album bridge genres, generations and geographical borders.

“With contributions from countries all over the globe,” Metallica say, “from the U.S. to Nigeria, there are tracks from singer-songwriters, country artists, electronic and hip-hop artists alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music and many, many more, covering the entire spectrum from musicians we’ve shared the stage with to some who were not even born yet when the original album was released!

“In addition to raising money for charity, we wanted to show that Metallica’s music transcends genres, distance and cultures, and we like to think that—with everyone’s help—we’ve done just that,” Metallica continue. “It was important to us that the artists could choose whichever song they most connected to; it didn’t matter if we already had multiple versions of a song. If an artist wanted to cover that song, so be it. We were honored to have artists of this caliber want to be a part of the project, and we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed putting it all together!”

It’s already clear that there will be a wide range of artists featured on the album. Not only are Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Mac DeMarco and country musician Jason Isbell all slated to be on the album, but legends such as Miley Cyrus and Elton John have already collaborated to release their take on “Nothing Else Matters.”

Cyrus created an all-star team for her reimagining of “Nothing Else Matters.” She recruited Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Metallica’s own bassist Robert Trujillo and Post Malone producer WATT. Yo-Yo Ma even joined in the star-studded arrangement. You can watch the visual for the track below.

Miley Cyrus leads supergroup to cover Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” https://www.altpress.com/miley-cyrus-nothing-else-matters-metallica-blacklist/ Wed, 23 Jun 2021 22:55:38 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/miley-cyrus-nothing-else-matters-metallica-blacklist/ Miley Cyrus has blessed the world with an all-star cover of Metallica’s 1992 single “Nothing Else Matters.”

The stripped-down, enchanting cover comes as a dual-part re-release of Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album (aka “The Black Album”) and an upcoming covers album called The Metallica Blacklist

The track features a host of renowned collaborators, including Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Elton John, whose respective drums and keyboard take the stage alongside Cyrus’ dramatically wide-ranging vocals. Yo-Yo Ma’s cello can be also be heard, giving an eerie feeling to the classic, and Metallica’s own Robert Trujillo provides a powerful bassline. Add Post Malone producer WATT to the mix and the track feels like the all-star-filled reimagining it was meant to be.

Both Metallica and Cyrus shared the track’s release June 22 on Twitter, just a few hours before a Juanes cover of “Enter Sandman” dropped.

“Honored to be in company of some of the greatest to ever do it,” Cyrus wrote in a tweet.

As a songwriter whose 2020 album, Plastic Hearts, featured legends such as Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol and Joan Jett, Cyrus has come to know when she’s in the presence of groundbreaking artists. The singer essentially rebranded herself into the physical manifestation of post-modern rock ’n’ roll through her series of ’80s covers, such as the 2020 rendition of “Heart Of Glass.” The “Nothing Else Matters” cover just further solidifies her as a cross-spectrum tour de force capable of tackling any rock genre.

The Metallica Blacklist is scheduled for release Sept. 10 via Metallica’s label, Blackened Recordings, and will feature dozens of artists performing their own takes on the 1991 classic album. In addition to the retinue included in “Nothing Else Matters,” the full roster ranges from obvious choices such as Slipknot’s Corey Taylor to more unique candidates such as indie darling Mac DeMarco and country artist Jason Isbell

The Metallica Blacklist celebrates the enduring influence of Metallica with an unprecedented 50+ artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite ‘Black Album’ cut,” the band’s website says.

Additionally, the profits from each track will benefit the respective artist’s charity of choice, including Metallica’s own community-based charity All Within My Hands. Their choices range from the Whales of Guerrero to The Happy Hippie Foundation, Cyrus’ own LGBTQIA+ anti-homelessness nonprofit.

You can see each musician’s charity of choice on their website and check out the tracklisting below.

Metallica turn the US national anthem into the ultimate guitar shred—watch https://www.altpress.com/metallica-turn-the-us-national-anthem-into-the-ultimate-guitar-shred-watch/ Tue, 16 Mar 2021 23:56:04 +0000 This week, fans were treated to another Metallica performance of the U.S. national anthem. Ahead of the Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA game March 15, Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield gave a powerful metal performance of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

Together, the musical duo transformed the classic national anthem into the ultimate guitar shred moment.

Because Metallica reside in San Francisco, it’s no surprise that Hammett and Hetfield were part of the Golden State WarriorsNBA game this week. Although the Warriors went on to lose to the Lakers 128 to 97, Hammett and Hetfield gave the iconic performance just before tip-off.

Alongside two black monitors with “Strength in Numbers,” the Warriors logo and Metallica’s symbol across the front, Hammett and Hetfield’s guitar playing controlled the entire performance. Similar to their previous national anthem performances, Hammett took over the lead, playing the main melodies of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

Meanwhile, Hetfield overlaid numerous rhythmic notes, giving the patriotic song a powerful metal-inspired sound. Eventually, Hetfield ended the performance with a salute before Stephen Curry and LeBron James went head-to-head for the Lakers vs. Warriors game.

More on Metallica

Of course, this recent NBA appearance isn’t the first time Hammett and Hetfield have performed the U.S. national anthem. Back in 2013, Metallica held their first-ever Metallica Night at AT&T Park which is now called Oracle Park. Since then, the event has become an annual occurrence for San Francisco Giants fans.

Along with Hammett and Hetfield’s national anthem performances, Lars Ulrich throws the ceremonial first pitch during the events. The band also sign autographs for MLB fans, give interviews and release special merchandise for Metallica Night.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic changed things last year. Although the annual Metallica Night couldn’t happen, the band still supported the Giants. In September, Hammett and Hetfield played their iconic rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” while Robert Trujillo virtually threw the first pitch of the Giants vs. Colorado Rockies game.

Along with San Francisco Giants, Metallica have performed the “Star-Spangled Banner” for other sports teams and events. In June 2015, Hammett and Hetfield played before the official X Games in Austin, Texas. Then, in 2016, the duo opened up the final game of the NHL‘s Stanley Cup against the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins.

As for the Golden State Warriors, Hammett and Hetfield first performed for one of the team’s games in 2015. After the Golden State Warriors took the NBA Western Conference title, they faced the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA finals. To help keep spirits high, Hammett and Hetfield performed the anthem just before game 5’s tip-off. In the end, the Warriors went on to win that game and the NBA title that year.

More recently, Hammett and Hetfield showed their hometown pride again in 2019. The duo performed before game 3 of the 2019 NBA finals where the Warriors faced the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors eventually won the game and their first NBA league title.

Hammett and Hetfield’s latest U.S. national anthem performance arrives shortly after Metallica celebrated the 35th anniversary of Master Of Puppets. For the milestone, the band played the album’s explosive opener “Battery” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Last month, the band also performed “Enter Sandman” as part of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘s Super Bowl LV special.

Lately, Trujillo has been in the studio with Ozzy Osbourne and a few other familiar faces. Trujillo, Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins and the Red Chili PeppersChad Smith are all featured on Osbourne‘s upcoming album. Back in December, producer Andrew Watt revealed that the iconic musicians are part of the studio band recording Osbourne’s new music.

Previously, Watt produced Osbourne’s Ordinary Man, which was released in 2020. In fact, Watt’s work on the album helped him win the 2021 Grammy for Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical.

“There’s a bunch of people involved,” Watt told Guitar World. “I can’t say for sure until the end. But I started doing a bunch of basic tracks with Chad and Robert Trujillo, who used to play in Ozzy’s band. And Taylor Hawkins also came in and played a bunch on the record as well, which adds a different flair. It kind of harkened back to Ozzy’s ’80s era, in a great way. And I think it’s so cool for a rock fan to be able to listen to half an album with Chad Smith on drums, and then you flip it over and you get to hear Taylor Hawkins.”

Before uniting with Metallica in 2003, Trujillo joined Osbourne’s band in the mid-’90s where he both toured and recorded in the studio. Along with performing on Osbourne’s 2001 LP Down To Earth, he also co-wrote “That I Never Heard,” “Junkie” and “Can You Hear Them?” on the album.

This past year, Metallica’s music has been involved in various other projects. Last December, their legendary song “Enter Sandman” was covered by blink-182‘s Travis Barker, Elise TrouwCarey Watkins and American Sign Language performer Paul Raci. The cover was created for Amazon Prime Video‘s new film Sound Of Metal, which has been nominated for numerous awards at the Oscars this year. The movie stars Raci and Riz Ahmed who are nominated in the acting categories at the 2021 Academy Awards.

As well, Miley Cyrus is currently working on a Metallica’s covers album. Prior to the release of her new album Plastic Hearts, Cyrus revealed that Metallica are one of the bands that inspired the sound on her new rock record. In October, she then told Interview Magazine that she is officially recording a collection of Metallica covers.

Finally, in January, Cyrus revealed that she is teaming up with Elton John, Smith and Yo-Yo Ma for the Watt-produced covers LP.

“I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on piano,” she told Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp. “I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith; so many all-stars. I’m so excited about this collaboration. I love when ingredients don’t quite fit.”

So far, Cyrus has not confirmed when her Metallica covers album will be released.

Ozzy Osbourne’s next album includes collabs with these rock legends https://www.altpress.com/ozzy-osbournes-next-album-includes-collabs-with-these-rock-legends/ Sat, 19 Dec 2020 02:03:14 +0000 Ozzy Osbourne is currently working on his follow up to Ordinary Man with producer Andrew Watt.

Now, it looks like Ozzy is teaming up with some other rock legends for the new release.

Earlier this year, Ozzy debuted his studio album Ordinary Man. The album was produced by Andrew Watt and recorded while Ozzy recovered from his surgery and related illnesses. The 11-track album includes surprise collaborations with Elton John, Post Malone and Travis Scott.

Although it’s been less than a year since Ordinary Man was released, it looks like Ozzy is already working on his next album. Back in July, Sharon Osbourne confirmed that Ozzy was back collaborating with Watt on an Ordinary Man follow up. After postponing his final tour dates due to illness, the Black Sabbath frontman decided to use his newfound time off to work on the new album.

“The album was sensational,” Sharon said. “He’s starting his second album with Andrew Watt right now. And you can’t stop him. He’s doing it.”

More recently, in October, Ozzy gave an update on how writing and recording for the album are going.

“I’m doing another record right now,” he told Radio.com. “I just started to work with Andrew again. It’s what gets me up in the morning, and it’s what I’m here to do. It saved my life, doing that last album. [It’s better than] sitting on my ass all day waiting for the fucking pandemic to be over. And then you go, ‘Oh, yeah, I am a rock and roller. I’d better do an album.’ You’ve got all the fucking time in the world to make the best album possible.”

Now, it looks like Ozzy and Watt have had some company in the studio. The producer recently told Guitar World that Ozzy’s new album features a backing band comprised of some rock legends.

Metallica‘s Robert Trujillo, Foo Fighters Taylor Hawkins and the Red Chili PeppersChad Smith are all involved in the band. As well, Watts confirmed they are “about halfway through” recording the new LP.

“There’s a bunch of people involved,” he says. “I can’t say for sure until the end, but I started doing a bunch of basic tracks with Chad and Robert Trujillo, who used to play in Ozzy’s band. And Taylor Hawkins also came in and played a bunch on the record as well, which adds a different flair – it kind of harkened back to Ozzy’s ’80s era, in a great way. And I think it’s so cool for a rock fan to be able to listen to half an album with Chad Smith on drums, and then you flip it over and you get to hear Taylor Hawkins.”

Not so coincidentally, Andrew Watt celebrated his birthday with quite a few of these musicians. Back in October, the producer turned 30th and had a jam session with Post Malone, Jane’s Addiction‘s Chris Chaney, Trujillo, Hawkins and Smith.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Watt also revealed that all safety precautions are being taken in the studio.

“But, you know, it’s been hard with COVID and everything to keep him safe,” Watt said. “We all test every day before we work and it’s just me, Ozzy and my engineer.”

His comments arrive just weeks after Ozzy said he’s “fucked” if he contracts coronavirus. Due to his ongoing health problems and Parkinsons, the frontman is considered to be an incredibly high-risk individual.

“I’ve got emphysema, so if I get this virus, I’m fucked,” he told GQ.

Earlier this week, Sharon confirmed that she has tested positive for coronavirus. The diagnosis eventually led her to be hospitalized. However, she is now recovering away from Ozzy and the rest of the family.

Now, it looks like Post Malone has taken part in another big jam session. This time, however, he was joined by some pretty legendary musicians.

Producer Andrew Watt recently turned 30 and invited some of his friends to help him celebrate the big milestone. A night of partying eventually turned into a moment that Watt will likely never forget.

While he’s been with Metallica, his son took a stab at playing bass with the band during SoCal Hoedown in San Pedro, California on Saturday. Tye Trujillo, 15, totally rocked it like a pro.

Suicidal Tendencies shared a video of Tye’s performance with the band on Facebook along with some kind words.

“Wow… It’s been 30 years since Robert Trujillo joined ST and did his firST shows with the band in Europe on tour with Anthrax,” the caption read. “That firST show Robert came out like a beaST, going wild on ST all while slapping and bashing his bass with precision and a purpose.
