“I’ve been thinking lots about my body,” she says. “It’s strange to watch yourself change so quickly. I thought pregnancy would give me very strong, binary feelings about ‘womanhood’ but truly it has leveled my perception of gender entirely. My sensitivity to my body has made me hyper-aware of my humanness and that’s all. Doing a remarkable thing. And it’s grand. I hope the feeling lasts. I cook a lot, sleep even more, and read lotssss of books. I miss my family. And you guys too! bye for now.”

Over the years, Halsey has been open about her experiences with reproductive health and fertility. Back in 2016, she confirmed she has endometriosis, a condition that is known for impacting fertility in some individuals. Then, in 2017, she underwent a series of “terrifying surgeries” to help treat her endometriosis. More recently, Halsey told Zane Lowe last year how her experiences inspired the song “More,” off of her latest album Manic.

Shortly after sharing her pregnancy photos on Instagram, she referred to her baby as “my rainbow” on Twitter. “Rainbow baby” is typically a term used to describe a newborn that arrives after a series of miscarriages, stillborns and other pregnancy complications.

Halsey clarifies if her pregnancy is really why her ‘Manic’ tour was canceled https://www.altpress.com/halsey-clarifies-if-her-pregnancy-is-really-why-her-manic-tour-was-canceled/ Fri, 29 Jan 2021 23:33:43 +0000 Back in February 2020, Halsey kicked off her Manic World Tour in Madrid. Although she was able to complete the European and U.K. dates before the coronavirus pandemic hit, she was forced to postpone her North American tour. The Manic tour was set to resume this June. However, on Jan. 22, Halsey confirmed that the entire postponed tour has now been canceled as the pandemic continues to progress.

Shortly after, Halsey revealed that she is pregnant and expecting a child with boyfriend Alev Aydin. Now, Halsey is clearing up on if her pregnancy is the real reason why the Manic North American tour was canceled.

North American fans were greatly looking forward to the Manic tour for a number of reasons. Back in March, Halsey revealed that the Manic tour may have been her last tour for a “very long time.”

However, things quickly didn’t go to plan. In May, Halsey confirmed that the North American leg of the tour had been postponed to June 2021. Then, last week, Halsey announced that all of the dates have now been canceled.

“Safety is the priority. I wish things were different. I love you. Dreaming of seeing your faces again. @halseyteamhelp can answer specific questions.”

On Twitter, she called her baby “my rainbow,” which is in reference to her past struggles with reproductive health and miscarriages.

On Friday, she also shared a photo of her endometriosis scars. Back in 2017, she underwent a series of “terrifying surgeries” to help treat her endometriosis.

Following Halsey’s pregnancy news, some speculated that this may be the real reason her Manic tour dates were canceled. However, Halsey quickly shut down those rumors. In a tweet, she shares that the pandemic is the only reason she isn’t hitting the stage for the Manic tour this year.

“blahhhh. anyway. thanks for the love I’ve been bursting at the seams for the past 48 hours. it’s wonderful to celebrate something with you all after years of sharing all the sad stuff ;)”

“and just so we’re aware, if it wasn’t for Covid I woulda done the tour pregnant.”

Last year, Halsey told Zane Lowe how her experiences with reproductive health eventually inspired the emotional song “More.”

“I’ve been really open about struggling with reproductive health,” she says. “I’ve talked about wanting to freeze my eggs and having endometriosis and different kinds of like tragic experiences I’ve gone through on the subject of reproductive health. For a long time, I didn’t think that having a family was something I was going to be able to do in an effortless manner….

She [her doctor] told me that because of my treatment, the steps that I was taking to better myself and the steps that she was implementing as a medical professional put me in a position where it was looking like I could start a family at some point should that be something that I want to do which she knows it’s something I very much want to do. I was really moved by the information because it wasn’t something I thought was a possibility for a really long time.”

The conversation starts at around 48:50 in the interview.

2021 has already been a big year for Halsey. Back in December, she began teasing some cryptic clues regarding an upcoming announcement. Then, earlier this month, she dropped her new makeup line about-face that is a true nod to the emo makeup looks of our Myspace days.

Halsey told Byrdie that about-face is a nod to the scene queen days of the past. For her, about-face is a community that welcomes outcasts and rebels like the ones she saw throughout her teenage days. Ultimately, this makeup line is a true nod to all of the Myspace-era emos out there.

“I feel like I never really see makeup anymore that’s about being fucked up and dirty and grungy and just wrong, and so much makeup used to be about that,” she says. “I’m just paying homage to the style of makeup and the makeup influences that I’ve always loved: very ’90s-heavy, very Myspace scene queen, very emo revival.”

Before 2020 came to a close, Halsey revealed that she has plenty of surprises in store for 2021. Along with her makeup collection and starring role in Sing 2, Halsey announced that she three more big surprises on the way for fans.

See Halsey perform some acoustic renditions for LGBTQ+ benefit show https://www.altpress.com/halsey-lgbtq-acoustic-benefit-show/ Fri, 17 Jul 2020 01:08:47 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/halsey-lgbtq-acoustic-benefit-show/ This week, Halsey teamed up with Magnum Ice Cream for the True To Pleasure show. In celebration of the performance, the company pledged $50,000 to GLSN, an organization that provides LGTBQ students with an educational environment free of judgment and harassment.

Now, after much demand, Halsey’s entire performance has been posted on YouTube.

Halsey recently partnered with Magnum Ice Cream for its latest campaign. The True To Pleasure advertisement includes individuals from all walks of life and encourages everyone to be their most authentic selves. The singer is featured in the company’s new ad which can be seen at the start of the video.

Following Halsey’s partnership with Magnum, she took part in a benefit show for LGBTQ+ students. After much demand from fans, Halsey and Magnum released the full performance online for those who missed it. The video is available on YouTube for the next 24-hours.

“Ok u guys were so cute and nice I asked them to please upload the performance for 24 hours cause some people missed it,” Halsey tweets.

The acoustic performance includes seven songs that have been released recently in Halsey’s career.

Halsey opens up the show with an acoustic performance of “Bad At Love.” The single is off of her 2017 album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. She also performs “Strangers” which appears on the 2017 LP.

Halsey also included some songs off of her latest album Manic which was released earlier this year. “Without Me,” “Finally // Beautiful Stranger,” “Graveyard” and “Alanis’ Interlude” [Morissette] are all included in the setlist. She also performs her recent collab with Marshmello Be Kind.”

Halsey had specific reasons for why she decided to include each song in the setlist.

“When I put this setlist together, I picked some of the songs that, to me, best communicate the feelings of love, loss, longing, and learning,” she says. “And doing all of it in a way that is un-adulterated and unapologetically yourself. That’s a common theme in a lot of my songs.”

Due to the postponement of her Manic World Tour, Halsey has been finding other ways to keep busy over the past few months. She recently announced that she is releasing her first poetry book. As well, she launched the Black Creators Funding Initiative which supports creators in the arts.

Earlier this month, her collab “Life’s A Mess” with late rapper Juice WRLD was released. The song is off of his posthumous album that came out last week. As well, there’s some speculation that Halsey may be releasing a collab with Machine Gun Kelly and blink-182‘s Travis Barker soon.

Billboard is no longer counting merch bundle sales for chart results https://www.altpress.com/billboard-charts-merch-ticket-bundles/ Tue, 14 Jul 2020 23:15:58 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/billboard-charts-merch-ticket-bundles/ Billboard is making some big changes to its music charts. On July 13, the company announced its changing its rules for the Billboard 200, Hot 100 and various other music charts.

Now, Billboard is no longer including ticket and merch bundles in its chart figures. This latest move will significantly impact overall album sales in the industry.

Currently, it’s a common practice for artists to sell copies of their albums within their merchandise and ticket bundles. The inclusion of these digital and physical albums greatly helps artists sell music during the age of streaming. It also influences where their music may debut on Billboard‘s charts.

More recently, Halsey, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Harry Styles are just a few artists to use bundles to boost album sales. Each ticket sold for Halsey’s rescheduled Manic tour comes with a copy of her latest album Manic. As well, copies of Styles’ new album Fine Line are also included with tour ticket purchases.

Now, Billboard has announced it will no longer include bundles on its chart figures. According to the announcement, Billboard will “eliminate the practice of counting albums bundled with merchandise and concert tickets on its album and song charts altogether.”

Last year, the company attempted to limit the impact bundles have on the music charts. In order for artists’ albums to count in the figures, the albums had to be sold individually or merchandise had to be sold for a lower price if sold separately. As well, bundles could only be available on their official website.

Those established regulations took effect Jan. 3. However, Billboard admits in the announcement that the rules “have fallen short of the intended goal of accurately reflecting consumer intent.” This ultimately led to Billboard‘s latest decision about bundles.

Now, albums “must be promoted as an add-on” to purchase alongside bundles. This is opposed to the current practice where albums are often included in the price of bundles.

As well, physical album sales that include digital downloads won’t count towards chart figures until the albums are shipped. This means that pre-orders involving vinyl are greatly impacted by this new rule. Since vinyl pressings often take a long time, vinyl sales won’t have the same impact on chart figures as they previously did.

At this time, Billboard has not shared when these new rules will take effect. However, the company states that these changes are in efforts to report sales figures more accurately.

“The new guidelines will better ensure that Billboard chart rankings more accurately reflect the conscious purchasing decisions of consumers and level the playing field for all artists.”

News about the tour’s postponement was released on Eilish’s Twitter page on Wednesday.

The announcement also shares that once the tour is rescheduled, new dates will be released. All tickets that have already been purchased for the tour will be honored for the rescheduled dates.

Halsey is postponing her ‘Manic’ North American tour until 2021 https://www.altpress.com/halsey-manic-north-american-tour-postponed/ Fri, 08 May 2020 01:52:40 +0000 Back in September 2019, Halsey began to announce dates for her Manic world tour. After completing the European and U.K. dates back in February and March, Halsey was going to hit the road this summer for her North American run. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, plans have changed.

On Thursday, Halsey announced on social media that all of her summer Manic tour dates have been rescheduled for 2021.

Halsey’s North American tour was scheduled to kick off this summer on June 2 in Seattle. Back in March, during her European tour, Halsey shared that she planned to take a break from touring at the end of 2020.

“I think 2020 will mark the end of me touring for a very long time,” she says. “Thank you for making the memories so special. I am cherishing every single night.”

Now, it appears that plans have changed. Over the past few weeks, the coronavirus pandemic has caused the cancelation of various events and tours worldwide. Now, the Manic tour has been directly impacted by the pandemic.

Halsey took to social media to announce that her North American tour dates have all been rescheduled for 2021.

“As I’m sure many of you predicted, we are unfortunately going to have to reschedule the upcoming 2020 summer tour,” Halsey says. “There’s nothing more important to me than the safety and health of my fans. We’re excited to announce summer 2021 dates with the same venues.”

Halsey goes on to share that all of the tickets purchased for the Manic tour already will be honored next year. For those wishing for a refund or more information regarding their tickets, they need to reach out to their ticket providers.

“If you have a ticket, it will be 100% valid for the rescheduled tour dates,” Halsey shares. “However, for those who are looking for refunds, you can find them at point of purchase, subject to their terms.”

Ticketmaster is currently making headlines for their refund policies on rescheduled shows. The ticketing company and its partner Live Nation are also facing a number of lawsuits over the refund policies set in place.

Despite this, Halsey is reassuring fans that the Manic tour in North America will happen next year.

“Thank you for understanding,” Halsey says. “Touring is my favorite thing in the world and I can’t wait to see you again soon.”

CHVRCHES, Omar Apollo, blackbear, and PVRIS were the opening acts scheduled to perform on this year’s North American Manic tour. No information on if the lineup will be returning for the rescheduled 2021 dates has been released yet.

Meanwhile, Halsey has been finding a number of ways to stay busy while in quarantine. Last month, she shared a Spotify playlist featuring the music she has been listening to while social distancing. The playlist includes tracks from YUNGBLUD, 5 Seconds of Summer, The 1975 and more.

On May 1, she released the self-empowering track “Be Kind” with Marshmello. She even took part in the coronavirus pandemic efforts and tracked down 100,000 masks for front-line workers.

Halsey says post-‘Manic’ tour break will let her do a “bit of growing up” https://www.altpress.com/halsey-says-she-needs-to-grow-up-after-manic-tour/ Thu, 12 Mar 2020 22:34:27 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/halsey-says-she-needs-to-grow-up-after-manic-tour/ Earlier in March, Halsey said she thinks her Manic tour might be the last in a long time. It seems now we might know the reason why.

Halsey took to the stage in Dublin, Ireland on March 10 and addressed the crowd about her plans for the future.

For the past couple of weeks, Halsey has been traveling around the world supporting her most recent album Manic. She is set to head stateside for the North American leg of the tour this June.

It hasn’t been as easy ride to get to this point of the tour though. She faced backlash for some comments she made in New Zealand, her tour mates, Pale Waves, were in a severe bus accident that caused them to cancel their performances and the press hasn’t put her in the greatest of mindsets. Due to the latter, Halsey even threatened a press blackout because “no one can take a joke.”

Earlier this month, Halsey took to social media to say she thinks this will be her last tour for quite a while.

I think 2020 will mark the end of me touring for a very long time. Thank you for making the memories so special. I am cherishing every single night.

Thanks to her most recent show in Dublin, Ireland, we might have a good reason why. Halsey said she wants to take a break so that she can “can do a little bit of growing up.”

The comment came when she was addressing the crowd, discussing about how she watched a 16-year-old beg her to come perform in Ireland and now that same 23-year-old is probably in the crowd. Halsey has seen her fans grow, but they’re doing it much faster than her.

“I’ve watched some of you guys get married, get engaged, go to university. I watched a lot of you do a lot of stupid dumb shit too,” Halsey says. “The cool thing about it is that you’ve watched me grow up too.”

You guys have watched me date, a lot of people. So many. Like, a lot. You’ve watched me break up with a lot of people. You guys have watched me say the wrong thing at the wrong time, make friends with the wrong people.”

“But something’s started happening where you guys have started to grow up faster than I was…and I’m supposed to be the one who writes the songs that help you and stops you from making mistakes. But how can I do that if you’re growing up faster than me?”

“So, that’s why I’m taking this break. So that I can go away and I can do a little bit of growing up and come back and write you the best fucking album you’ve ever heard.”

Pale Waves drummer “so grateful to be alive” after severe bus accident https://www.altpress.com/pale-waves-ciara-doran-bus-accident/ Sat, 07 Mar 2020 00:18:26 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/pale-waves-ciara-doran-bus-accident/ Pale Waves drummer Ciara Doran has now spoken out following their “serious bus accident” that occurred last week.

Pale Waves had been supporting Halsey on her Manic tour of Europe and the U.K when their bus crashed on the way to Berlin on Feb. 27.

Before the announcement that they would support Halsey, Pale Waves were on the road supporting their debut record My Mind Makes Noises.

Pale Waves hit ten stops with Halsey before the accident. They were set to play nine more, before ending in Manchester, UK on March 12.

The band issued a statement regarding the accident. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

Last night we were involved in a serious bus accident on our way to the Berlin show. We were really lucky and no-one has been seriously hurt, but we are not able to play the next few shows. We have loved playing these shows with Halsey and hope to be back on the tour really soon

Now, Doran issued a lengthy statement on Instagram providing more details on the event and saying “thank you for all the messages and support [she’s] received since the crash.”

One picture accompanying the post shows a flipped tour bus on the side of the road. Read the full statement below.

Hey everyone

i just want to say thank you for all the messages and support I’ve received since the crash. It means so much to me.

I know I’ve kept quiet about what exactly happened, it’s been taxing both mentally and physically and I still cannot wrap my head around it. Being trapped in the bus after it rolled off the road is one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced. We honestly thought we were going to die. The injuries will heal but this will stay with me and everyone involved for forever.

I deeply apologise for having to cancel some shows on this tour…I would do anything to be there for you all and I cannot wait to get back on stage.

I want to also say thank you to everyone that was on the bus that night. The strength, compassion and bravery was like nothing I’ve experienced before. I can’t express the love and respect I have for you all.

I am so grateful to be alive and to be able to continue doing what I love most. See you all so soon. Love from your small average drummer ?? xx

Last night we were involved in a serious bus accident on our way to the Berlin show. We were really lucky and no-one has been seriously hurt, but we are not able to play the next few shows. We have loved playing these shows with Halsey and hope to be back on the tour really soon
