The highly anticipated run will mark the follow-up to the band’s return at The Shrine in Los Angeles in December 2019 following a clue-filled reunion announcement weeks prior on Halloween.

Originally set to play their next shows in Australia, New Zealand and Japan in March 2020, like all bands with touring plans amid the coronavirus pandemic, MCR began postponing their dates to 2021. Now, to ensure fans can safely attend their shows, the band are shifting all U.S. and international dates planned for this year to 2022.

“We are deeply sad, but those emotions are only a fraction of the depth of feeling we have all experienced watching the suffering and loss of the past year,” My Chemical Romance say in a statement. “We just want to be as sure as we can be that everyone is safe. Refunds will be offered to anyone who wants them. We are sorry if this is disappointing, and we really can’t wait to see you in 2022.”

While all tickets will be honored at the rescheduled dates, fans who are unable to attend may obtain refunds at their point of purchase. However, select dates have a limited window for refund requests. For New Zealand ticket holders, all requests must be submitted by May 20, 2021. Fans with tickets to dates in North America must request a refund by May 16, 2021. All questions regarding refunds should be directed to your point of purchase.

For those still attending a gig in 2022, your current ticket determines your rescheduled show if a city has multiple dates.

Following the postponed Eden Sessions show that was originally going to kick off their delayed return this year, the band have also shifted the three U.K. stops in Milton Keynes from June 2021 to May 2022. June 17 is rescheduled to May 19, 2022; June 19 is rescheduled to May 21, 2022 and June 20 is rescheduled to May 22, 2022.

The band were also set to play Bonn, Germany in July 2021, and both dates are now moving to June 2022. July 6 ticket holders may attend the June 21, 2022 stop, and fans with tickets to the July 7 show can attend on June 22, 2022.

Originally announced as part of their first U.S. tour in nine years with Frank Iero-approved billboards welcoming them back, MCR’s postponed Newark, New Jersey shows are now moving from September 2021 to September 2022. Sept. 21 tickets will be accepted for Sept. 20, 2022, and Sept. 22 tickets will be taken at the Sept. 21, 2022 show.

And finally, after selling out their entire North American tour in under 6 hours and adding additional dates, the four-date stop at The Forum in Los Angeles will be accepted as follows: Oct. 11 ticketholders can attend the October 11, 2022 show, Oct. 12 the Oct. 12, 2022 show, Oct. 14 the October 14, 2022 show and Oct. 17 the Oct. 15, 2022 show.

More on My Chemical Romance

Over the past year, the band have opened up about their excitement to get back on stage again. In May 2020, Mikey Way discussed the band’s upcoming tour with Newsbeat amid the first wave of postponements.

“I know fans have been waiting a long time, but it’ll all still be here when this is all over,” the bassist says. “It’s easy for me to say we had a plan, but everyone had a plan, you know what I mean?”

“I’m trying to take myself out of a selfish place. Everyone I know was about to do something,” Way continues. “Whether you’re in a band, you’re a director, you work a retail job, you’re a gardener – you had a plan, and now it’s been disrupted.”

“Live music isn’t going anywhere, it’s just on pause for everybody,” he concludes. “I feel like people are waiting with bated breath. It’s a light at the end of the tunnel and I think there’s something really cool about that.”

More recently in February 2021, Iero joined At The Drive-In’s Jim Ward on Instagram Live where he also discussed the MCR’s upcoming plans.

“I can’t wait, man,” Iero tells Ward. “I really can’t. It’s such a weird experience to be like, ‘hey alright all of this stuff that we’ve been working towards and these well-made plans,’ and all of a sudden it’s like, ‘ah hurry up and wait.’ But it happens…The play is to make it seem like you didn’t put any work in, you didn’t prepare for anything like fucking James Dean. You just want to be cool without even trying.”

Silverstein return with fiery video for cathartic track “Bankrupt”—watch https://www.altpress.com/silverstein-bankrupt-music-video/ Thu, 15 Apr 2021 19:10:02 +0000 Silverstein are back with an explosive new track “Bankrupt.” Following their latest full-length A Beautiful Place To Drown and back catalog revamps on Redux II last year, “Bankrupt” marks their first new song of 2021.

The post-hardcore staples aren’t holding back with an energetic new video for the rage-fueled track that serves as a commentary on the state of the world.

Just days into their 20th anniversary run, Silverstein cut their initial touring plans short amid the coronavirus pandemic like many bands in March 2020. Watching world events unfold over the next few months, the group felt angry that some people in power were using their platform to kick the world while it’s down.

Channeling that emotion, the band—vocalist Shane Told, bassist Billy Hamilton, drummer Paul Koehler and guitarists Paul Marc Rousseau and Josh Bradford—began writing new music while at home. As the first song from those sessions, “Bankrupt” is a fiery culmination of a rage that while a total kick in the teeth sonically also gives a poignant perspective on expecting more from our leaders.

Read more: 23 Canadian bands Silverstein’s Shane Told knows will keep the scene alive

I don’t know how to feel anything but rage anymore,” Rousseau says of the track in a statement. “The rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer. Wages are stagnant, tuition costs are rising, jobs are being automated [or] off-shored [and] costs of a home are laughable in most major cities.

“The walls feel like they’re closing in, and escape is starting to feel impossible. Two-faced leaders and greedy elected officials line their pockets while stripping funding for the programs that we actually need. What are we supposed to do now? Looking out for one another on a community level is good, but changing a crooked system is better.”

When it came to constructing the visuals for the powerful single, the band teamed back up with director and editor Wyatt Clough. The filmmaker opted to capture much of the “Bankrupt” video on Kodak black-and-white 16mm film. Contrasting with the vibrancy of the pyrotechnics-filled performance, the grainy juxtaposition sets the mood for the aggressive track.

“‘Bankrupt,’ it’s gritty and ugly and dripping with maximalism and excess,” Rousseau exclusively tells Alternative Press. “It’s fire with fire on fire. Of course, the video needed to be straight to the point. The song says enough. [There’s] no need to muddy the waters with some flimsy narrative. Using a film camera gave us the feel and grime we wanted. Blowing things up was cathartic and the only fair physical representation of how we felt.”

“Bankrupt” is available to stream here via UNFD, and the high-energy video can be watched below.

In recent years, “Bankrupt” director Clough has worked with bands such as Beartooth on Disease track “Afterall” and their latest single “The Past Is Dead” off upcoming full-length Below. The creator’s resume also features credits with the Elwins (“Hung Up,” “Take Me All The Way”), Safe To Say (“Tangerine”) and Bearings (“Sway”).

However, this also isn’t the first time the director has crossed paths with Silverstein, teaming up with the band for a live music video for I Am Alive In Everything I Touch track “Heaven, Hell And Purgatory” on Warped Tour in 2015. Shortly after, Clough worked on “Lost Positives” and “Whiplash” from Dead Reflection and captured and edited a short documentary about the 2017 album.

Since then, they also worked together through the A Beautiful Place To Drown era, which kicked off in 2019 with the band’s UNFD signing announcement and the release of “Burn It Down” featuring Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo. Clough directed and edited the purple-hued neon video for the follow-up singleInfinite,” which features Underoath’s Aaron Gillespie. The matchup continued on the equally vibrant video for Aaron Marshall (Intervals) collab “Bad Habits,” and the videographer also contributed footage of jellyfish to the Machine That Eats-directed visual for “Madness” featuring Princess Nokia.

Outside of the compelling visuals, Silverstein’s A Beautiful Place To Drown is nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the Juno Awards. They’re being recognized alongside Crown Landsself-titledJJ Wilde’s RuthlessNeil Young & Crazy Horse’s Colorado and Sam Roberts Bands All Of Us. This marks the band’s second nomination following a nod for New Group of the Year in 2006. The 2021 show will air May 16 at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST on CBC TV.

Silverstein “Bankrupt” lyrics

Blow it up
Hail to the king of vanity
Praise to the lord of hostility
Hallelujah! Bless the bottom line
New day, same con
Works every time

Take it all ’til there’s nothing left
Never believed a word that you said
Destroyer you are become death
Sell out, cash in, but you’ll always be
Bankrupt

I’m waiting for an answer
Life is a disaster we’re going through
Time keeps on moving backwards
The world is a cancer coming for you

Stock options only offset the loneliness

Money talks but time’s going deaf
Can’t buy back the life that you spent
Destroyer you are become death
Sell out, cash in, but you’ll always be
Bankrupt

I’m waiting for an answer
Life is a disaster we’re going through
Time keeps on moving backwards
The world is a cancer coming for you

Oh fuck, blow it up
The deck is stacked
The game is rigged
The only rope they give
Chokes us when they pull the strings

I’m waiting for an answer
Life is a disaster we’re going through
(Take it all ’til there’s nothing left)

Everybody’s got a knife to their neck, everybody, everyone

Phoebe Bridgers is auctioning off her smashed ‘SNL’ guitar to benefit GLAAD https://www.altpress.com/phoebe-bridgers-smashed-snl-guitar-auction/ Sat, 10 Apr 2021 01:41:42 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/phoebe-bridgers-smashed-snl-guitar-auction/ About two months ago, Phoebe Bridgers hit the Saturday Night Live stage for her performance debut. At the end of her two-song set, the musician smashed her guitar on stage, immediately earning the praise of fans and the attention of others.

Now, that iconic piece of music history has headed to auction to benefit GLAAD, an organization that promotes the acceptance and increased portrayal of the LGBTQIA+ community in media. Happening now with a current bid of $13,000, the auction ends April 11.

The auction has been launched around the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which were hosted by actor Niecy Nash April 8. The virtual ceremony, which is currently available to stream on YouTube and Hulu, honors the media’s fair and accurate representation of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Bridgers, who appears on Alternative Press’ recent Power Issue: Women Rising coverwas nominated in the Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist category for her latest album Punisher. She joined a diverse list of nominees including winner CHIKA as well as FLETCHER, Trixie Mattel and Victoria Monét. Fellow Alternative Press cover stars Orville Peck and Rina Sawayama, the latter of whom just appeared on the 100 Artists You Need To Know issue, also earned nods in the category.

Ahead of the annual ceremony, GLAAD launched an auction on April 1 featuring trips to San Francisco, Japan, Hawaii and Aspen Gay Ski Week among others. There is also an opportunity to own an original piece of artwork by Andrew Salgado or attend the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York in 2022.

However, perhaps the most intriguing piece is Bridgers’ Danelectro Dano ’56 baritone guitar that she smashed after performing “Kyoto” and “I Know the End” on SNL.

The current bid for the guitar is sitting at $13,000 with 15 bids. You can see photos of the legendary instrument below and place your bid in $500 increments here through April 11 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Following the SNL premiere, Bridgers received props from fellow musicians such as Dave Grohl and DragonForce’s Herman Li. However, while guitar smashing is nothing new, not everyone was as pleased with the move with singer David Crosby calling it “pathetic” in response to a fan’s question.

“Guitars are for playing [and] making music—not stupidly bashing them on a fake monitor for childish stage drama,” the singer continued on Twitter the following day. “I really do not give a flying F if others have done it before It’s still stupid.”

Bridgers caught wind of Crosby’s opinion shortly after and replied with a succinct “little bitch” and later followed it up with a link to Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed” video.

Following the auction’s launch this week, the “Kyoto” singer took to Twitter again to call back to Crosby’s comments. “It can finally be yours, [David Crosby],” she tweets, tagging the musician. As of the time of writing, Crosby has not responded.

More on Phoebe Bridgers’ SNL guitar smash

Airing on Feb. 6, Bridgers appeared on the episode hosted by Schitt’s Creek’s Dan Levy, a sitcom that was also nominated for and won for the second year in a row in the GLAAD Awards’ Outstanding Comedy Series category. Previously, Levy was also awarded the Davidson/Valentini Award at the 2019 GLAAD Gala.

The day after the performance, the singer revealed that the monitor she was smashing the guitar on was actually fake. Minutes later in response to musician Jason Isbell tweeting, “That was like an 85 dollar guitar she smashed come on guys,” Phoebe confirmed she got Danelectro’s blessing.

“I told Danelectro I was going to do it, and they wished me luck and told me they’re hard to break,” she shares in a reply.

Later, in an interview with Variety, Bridgers addressed calling Crosby a “little bitch” and further elaborated on the general response to her performance.

“I stand by it!” the singer tells the outlet. “The fact that it made people so mad is kind of what’s punk rock about it. No thought whatsoever went into what it represented or meant: I’d never done it before, so might as well do it [on ‘SNL’], where it’s gonna be immortalized. It’s hilarious to me that people care so much, but, I mean, there’s a video of a steamroller crushing a bunch of Gibson [guitars] as a tax write-off because they weren’t selling all of their stock—let that piss you off!”

You can see a snippet of Bridgers’ epic moment below.

AFI unveil captivating new song “Dulcería” co-written by Billy Corgan https://www.altpress.com/afi-dulceria-music-video-billy-corgan/ Fri, 09 Apr 2021 22:42:53 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/afi-dulceria-music-video-billy-corgan/ AFI are continuing to deliver a slew of diverse tracks ahead of their first album in more than four years, Bodies. “Dulcería” and “Far Too Near” mark the latest from their 11th album out June 11 via Rise Records.

With the release of the two new singles and a music video for “Dulcería,” AFI continue to explore the new era following 2017’s self-titled release also known as The Blood Album. While the band are officially immersed in this chapter, the new music still maintains their trademark sound.

Read more: 10 artists who put their own spin on a cover with a slight lyric change

For “Dulcería,” the band teamed up with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. This isn’t the first time the bands have crossed paths as frontman Davey Havok joined Smashing Pumpkins during the encore of their comeback show in 2018. At the phone-free event, the vocalist joined them onstage at the Troubadour for a cover of Joy Division’s “Transmission.” The following year, AFI supported the band alongside Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds on a summer tour.

Now, the artists have reunited on “Dulcería,” an entrancing track that Havok says “suggests if you spend too much time in the candy store you may end up stuck to the floor.”

Jade Puget produced the band’s upcoming album, which is also mixed by Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups). With the new releases, the guitarist shares how easy the creative process with Corgan was.

“Billy and I have a great creative connection when we’re writing together,” Puget says. “It was inspiring to work with such a talented and legendary songwriter, and ‘Dulcería’ is a testament to that.”

The immersive new video for “Dulcería” is available to watch below.

Following the release of the video, Puget took to Instagram to answer some questions from fans. In it, he revealed a fun fact that this was the first and only time he wore sunglasses in one of the band’s music videos.

The guitarist also confirmed that he was playing Robert Smith’s signature Schecter UltraCure, which he also used to record the track.

Puget also answered a question about the last track that was finished on Bodies. While he didn’t recall the song, he did share a behind-the-scenes photo with Havok holding up its lyrics.

In addition to “Dulcería,” AFI also released a visualizer for “Far Too Near.” Contrasting vibrant, trippy visuals against a dark backdrop, the visual perfectly captures the vibe of the new song. The video is also available to watch below.

Today’s release marks the third time the band have shared two singles simultaneously. Back on Jan. 1, AFI kicked off 2021 by revealing their 11th album would be out before the end of the year. Two weeks later, they shared the first two singles, “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape From Los Angeles.” Havok revealed that “Twisted Tongues” was the first track they explored for the new album and it stretches back quite some time.

“As I recall, ‘Twisted Tongues’ came off the Blood era and was the first piece of music we explored on the new album,” Havok says. “The dreaminess of the music lyrically inspired themes of unforeseen severance. It is a pining song of being set adrift by those who once feigned to share the same anchors.”

In February, the band officially announced the name of their next album and its summer release date with the release of “Looking Tragic” and “Begging Trouble.”

“Dulcería” lyrics

I saw sugar there, dancing in the sweet air.
When my eyes began to hurt
I spun sugared air, twisted up in your hair
That you’d burn before you’d flirt
Spinning, I must, Dulcería
You’re so cool that our tongues got stuck

In from the storm, where the norm is perverse
Well-acted porn’s getting worse
I love you more here, on the floor

Inhaled sugar there, dancing through the sweet air
‘Til our breath began to quake
I took several takes, melting in the cold air
And yet I gave you the shakes
Spinning for you, cuz you’re so cool
You’re so cool that our tongues got stuck

In from the storm, where the norm is perverse
Well-acted porn’s getting worse
I love you more here, on the floor

It took only a single take for me to melt upon the floor
And I gave you the shakes, the shakes
It took only a single take for me to melt upon the floor
You still give me the shakes, I shake

Here on the floor, I love you more
I love you more

“Far Too Near” lyrics

Through the green door, finally impure
Your smile tells me that I can’t
Stay here assured, well understood
I only wish that I could, if I could I’d

Give my heart to you
I’d give my heart to you if I could
Give my heart to you
I’d give my heart to you if I could

Locked the green door, ever unsure
My smile tells me that I can’t
Keep you in fear, without a word
My only wish I’d take back, I’d take back if I could…

Give my heart to you
I’d give my heart to you if I could
Give my heart to you
I’d give my heart to you if I could

If I can’t then what is that crashing sound?
Far, we’re far too near
I know too well that crashing sound
Far from gonе you’ll hear me

I’d give my hеart to you
I’d give my heart to you if I could
Give my heart to you
I’d give my heart to you if I could

Give my heart to you
Give my heart to you if I could

Japanese Breakfast finds comfort in haunting “Posing In Bondage” video https://www.altpress.com/japanese-breakfast-posing-in-bondage-video/ Fri, 09 Apr 2021 00:09:06 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/japanese-breakfast-posing-in-bondage-video/ Japanese Breakfast is offering up another taste of forthcoming third full-length Jubilee with “Posing In Bondage.” The latest from Michelle Zauner’s project tackles loneliness head-on in a breathtaking visual directed by the singer.

In addition to the reflective new track, Japanese Breakfast has also unveiled a list of tour dates set to kick off this fall.

Following the release of “Be Sweet” in March—which she later performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon—“Posing In Bondage” is the perfect follow-up to show off Zauner’s diverse sound. With expansive instrumentation from Wild Nothing’s Jack Tatum, Zauner’s poignant vocals highlight the relatable lyrics of someone trying to find their way.

Set in an empty grocery store, the track is an enchanting commentary on loneliness, which Zauner knew could be perfectly captured in that setting.

“‘Posing in Bondage’ is a ballad about loneliness and longing, a song about two people who want so badly to connect but are never quite able to do so,” Zauner says in a statement. “No place felt lonelier than an empty grocery at 1 a.m. The video is actually an epilogue to the one that will accompany our next single, here presented out of order.”

Directed by and starring Zauner, Girlpool’s Harmony Tividad appears opposite the singer as the grocery store cashier. Following the visual’s release, Zauner shared how she “literally gasped when [she] saw [Tividad] on 16mm [film].”

Tividad also took to Instagram to thank Zauner and share some behind-the-scenes shots of the duo eating instant noodles.

More on Japanese Breakfast

Ahead of the clip’s premiere on April 8, Zauner hosted her first YouTube live for a Q&A session with fans where she revealed this is one of her favorite videos to date.

As mentioned previously, the visual is part of a larger story connecting to the next single’s video, which Zauner reveals will be the last preview before the album.

“This ended up being an epilogue that comes before another video. I saw a question [asking] if there was going to be another single, and there is going to be one more single before the album releases on June 4, and I can’t wait for you to see it. It is epic. I think it’s maybe our best video yet.”

The vocalist also jumped into the meaning behind the album name and how it extends to the cover art as well. Following 2016 debut Psychopomp and 2017 follow-up Soft Sounds From Another Planet, Zauner reveals she was looking to approach her next album differently this time.

“I named the album Jubilee because it is an album about joy,” she begins. “I knew very early on that I wanted the theme to be joy, and the color yellow was very important to me. Jubilee is a year of release, and I felt like after writing two albums about grief and trauma and suffering, I wanted to write something on the total opposite end of the spectrum. I just felt really ready to embrace feeling in this new way, so all of the songs are about joy or embracing feeling in some way.

“The fruit on the cover art, persimmons, which are a pretty popular fruit in East Asia at least. In Korea and Japan, and I think Taiwan, they will hang the persimmons. They’ll peel them, and they’ll hang them. They start off as very vibrant, but you know [a] really hard, tough, bitter fruit. They’ll mature into sweet, soft, dried fruit, and I thought it was a really lovely metaphor for—for being known for this sort of narrative of grief and sadness and letting my environment mature me into something sweeter.”

In addition to the new album, Zauner’s highly anticipated book based on her 2018 New Yorker essay, Crying In H Mart, is due out April 20. The memoir touches on growing up Korean American and the loss of her mother and is available for preorder here.

Jubilee is out June 4 via Dead Oceans, and preorders are available here. The album artwork featuring the metaphor-filled persimmons and full tracklisting is available below.

Pete Davidson covers Cheap Trick on an instrument he’s never played—watch https://www.altpress.com/pete-davidson-cheap-trick-cover-jimmy-fallon/ Thu, 08 Apr 2021 03:14:07 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/pete-davidson-cheap-trick-cover-jimmy-fallon/ With a slew of acting credits ranging from the hilarious antics on Saturday Night Live to a serious reflection on life in The King Of Staten Island and the upcoming action-packed The Suicide Squad, it’s clear Pete Davidson is always up for a challenge.

This still rings true outside of acting as the comedian hit The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for the “Random Instrument Challenge” on April 6. Tasked with figuring out instruments neither Davidson nor Jimmy Fallon has played, they took on covers of Cheap Trick, Miley Cyrus, Madonna and more.

One by one, the duo pulled cards to see which song they had to play. Once selected, Tariq Trotter—aka Black Thought of the Roots who also serve as Fallon’s house band—randomly grabbed another card with an instrument. After their 30-second performance, the Roots had to guess which song it is in order for them to get a point.

Fallon was up first, performing Cyrus’ “Party In The U.S.A” on a long wooden flute. Struggling to get the instrument to actually produce noise, Black Thought chimes in with his guess of Sex Pistols’ “God Save The Queen.” Inadvertently giving them a clue, Fallon responds with “Why would you guess ‘God Save The [Queen]’? No, it’s not a punk-rock song.”

Davidson went next, hilariously attempting to play the Commodores’ “Brick House” on a synthesizer called an Omnichord. Fallon got the first point next, performing Cardi B’s “Up” on a Theremin before Davidson tried to play Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” on upright bass.

The duo teamed up on the last song, delivering a hilarious rendition of Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me.” The ’70s track has had countless covers over the years including Propagandhi, Lindsay Lohan and Punchline. It has also appeared in films such as Bandslam with Aly & AJ’s Aly Michalka on guitar and vocals and most notably in 10 Things I Hate About You with Letters To Cleo performing it on the roof.

Fallon and Davidson’s cover was definitely a more unique take with the duo attempting to make a recognizable beat on a large guitar called a guitarrón and a harmonica-like melodica. The Roots guessed “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” and while it was in the same general timeframe having been first recorded by the Arrows and later Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, the duo couldn’t get there with the correct answer.

More on Pete Davidson

Following the “Random Instrument Challenge,” Fallon interviewed Davidson later on in the episode. In the chat, the comedian shares how he accidentally got SNL co-star Alec Baldwin on a strict workout routine that helped the actor lose 100 pounds. Elsewhere in the interview, Davidson discussed how happy he is that New York City is finally legalizing recreational marijuana.

Davidson also dives into talking about the recent “Rap Roundtable” skit on SNL. In it, the comedian and Timothee Chalamet appear as duo Xan Mob, citing “Fall Out Boys” as one of their influences and delivering an instantly viral interpretation of SoundCloud rap.

The Roots’ Questlove also joined the cast as himself and smacks Davidson at one point in the skit. However, Davidson reveals that the slap didn’t go as planned.

“Oh dude, [Questlove is a] total pro,” he tells Fallon about working with the musician. “It’s also really cool when someone who knows the show and watches the show is involved with it. And it was just so fun to work with him, and he got to hit me, which was cool. I asked him if he would really hit me, and he said ‘no.’”

Questlove chimed in, adding, “He told me to hit him for real. He’s like, ‘I don’t feel it. Hit me for real.’”

Davidson claims he “thought it would be cool for the sketch” before Fallon tells him you can’t ask people to hit you on national television. “Yeah, but like, I don’t know, you can usually tell when it’s a fake hit. I wanted him to punch me in the face,” Davidson concludes.

Fallon continues the interview by discussing Davidson’s upcoming role as Blackguard in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad later this year. He joins fellow cast newcomers Idris Elba, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Rooker and John Cena. The crew appears alongside an already stacked slate of actors reprising their roles including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

“I love superhero movies, and I’m a huge James Gunn fan, and I got a call from James Gunn,” Davidson tells Fallon of landing the role. “He was like ‘There’s this role for you in the movie, and you play a guy named Richard Hertz. I was like, ‘Dick Hurts?’ I’m in. That’s his real name. My character’s name is Dick Hertz. And I was like, ‘Dude that’s the greatest. That’s so awesome.’ Yeah, he was nice enough to let me be in it, and it’s a thing I still can’t believe. It’s like ridiculous”

The Suicide Squad hits theaters Aug. 6 and will also be on HBO Max for one month from that date for subscribers. The first record-breaking red-band trailer and follow-up teaser—the latter of which first debuted in theaters ahead of Godzilla vs. Kong—are available to watch below.

twenty one pilots kick off ‘Scaled And Icy’ era with “Shy Away”—watch https://www.altpress.com/twenty-one-pilots-kick-shy-away-video-scaled-and-icy-album/ Wed, 07 Apr 2021 23:12:43 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/twenty-one-pilots-kick-shy-away-video-scaled-and-icy-album/ After months of anticipation and a whirlwind past few days of cryptic clues, twenty one pilots have finally introduced their next era with a new music video for “Shy Away.” Taken from their first album in nearly three years Scaled And Icy out May 21, the upbeat track officially marks the first single.

While “Shy Away” kicks off a new chapter for the band, they definitely haven’t completely shed their past eras as hints of them have popped up in the rollout to the debut.

twenty one pilots first welcomed us to Trench back in July 2017 as Josh Dun hit the stage in a Blurryface-era T-shirt at the Alternative Press Music Awards to accept the band’s Most Dedicated Fan Base win. In his APMAs speech, Dun apologized for Tyler Joseph’s absence, stating, “Tyler wishes he could be here. He’s off severing ties with Dema.”

Months later in April 2018, The Clique discovered a link to dmaorg.info hidden in a Vessel-era GIF on the band’s official site. Thanks to some impressive sleuthing, fans eventually decoded the site, unlocking a collection of images, a map and a letter from Clancy—who would become a recurring presence during Trench. While new information and clues were added to the site throughout that era, it remained relatively quiet until recently.

On April 2, fans discovered that the files were being removed slowly with a progress bar set to time out on April 5. Once the files were allegedly erased, dmaorg.info updated to a message that it had been “terminated,” in turn signaling the start of a new era.

“The page you are looking for has been removed from our servers,” the site reads. “The account was in violation of terms established by The Sacred Municipality of Dema, and deemed contraband material. Disciplinary action has been taken, and the offender no longer has access to this account.

“Further actions have been taken to ensure these violations will not occur again. Anyone attempting to access or share any contraband material will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the laws set forth by DMA ORG and The Sacred Municipality of Dema. Infraction No. 3.12.1.14.3.25 9.19 4.5.1.4”

After decoding the infraction numbers, some fans believe it corresponds to each letter in the alphabet and spells “Clancy Is Dead.”

Now, the band kicked it off with a premiere of “Shy Away” on BBC Radio 1 with host Jack Saunders. Minutes before the debut, Saunders took to social media to share the first listen of the track was airing at 1:07 p.m. ET/6:07 p.m. GMT.

Shortly after, it officially hit streaming sites, and the band took to their own accounts to announce the album.

Directed by Miles And AJ, the video introduces a vibrant new era for twenty one pilots, who are washed in neon featuring their new colors of light blue, pink and yellow. The video also gives a nod to their trademark ski masks present in both the Vessel and Blurryface eras as the duo play through the new track. Check out the “Shy Away” music video below.

The new album was written and produced by Joseph from his home studio in Columbus, Ohio—a setup the singer regularly shares on his personal Instagram and even captured in the visualizer for the audio premiere of “My Blood.” and the DIY video for “Level Of Concern.” Dun also worked from home, engineering drums for the album from across the country.

In addition to the new music video and album announcement, twenty one pilots will also host their first streamed performance on Maestro’s platform. Sponsored by Hot Topic and Chipotle, “Twenty One Pilots – Livestream Experience” will premiere the same day as the new album on May 21 at 8 p.m. ET.

The band will play songs from throughout their discography and debut new tracks from Scaled And Icy for the first time. With the purchase of a ticket, fans will unlock a 6-week interactive experience produced by lili STUDIOS. Ticket holders will also gain access to rare content, limited merch and special editions of the upcoming album.

With the release of the livestream poster, fans can also see a hint of Trench remains as it is billed as “A production of dma.org and Good Day Dema.” Tickets are available here.

More on twenty one pilots

Like many artists over the past year, twenty one pilots found themselves with more time on their hands in the wake of show cancellations amid the coronavirus pandemic. The band coped with the changes in the first post-Trench single “Level Of Concern” in April 2020, They later broke a Guinness World Record previously held by Pharrell’s “Happy” by constructing a never-ending music video with 162,000 user submissions across 4,264 hours, 10 mins and 25 seconds of footage.

In May 2020, Joseph told Zane Lowe that the band pushed up plans for their next album quite considerably.

“I’m writing a record right now,” Joseph said at the time. “I’m not sure when it’ll be released. But it’s definitely going to be sooner than we were planning on releasing a record.”

The frontman also opened up about the future of live shows and what to expect next during an interview for their cover story for Alternative Press’ 35th anniversary issue.

“I’m not really sure which direction we’re gonna go yet,” he admits. “There are two very different records, in my opinion, to be written. One being right now and the other one being after that. I don’t know which one I’m going to do first. I have an idea of what I think is next, sonically. It’s just whether or not it’s too big of a risk, I guess.”

Joseph gave an update in mid-November with a brief video on his Instagram Story where he shared a simple, “I’m working on the album.” Since then, there were very few updates on the status of the album, but that didn’t stop the Clique from theorizing their own.

St. Vincent ranks Paul McCartney praising her work as a top moment https://www.altpress.com/st-vincent-paul-mccartney-women-and-wives-interview/ Wed, 07 Apr 2021 03:56:48 +0000 St. Vincent is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated full-length Daddy’s Home, but that’s not the only project she’s excited for the world to hear. This week, the mastermind behind St. Vincent, Annie Clark, opened up about what it was like to work with Paul McCartney on a reworking of “Women And Wives” for the reimagined version of his 2020 album McCartney III.

Clark joins a diverse lineup of artists on the upcoming McCartney III Imagined, which also includes Alternative Press’ Power Issue: Women Rising cover star Phoebe BridgersQueens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn among others.

In a new interview with NME, Clark discussed a few recent collabs including working with Taylor Swift on the 2019 track “Cruel Summer.” A group effort with both artists’ regular collaborator and Grammywinning producer Jack Antonoff, the track later appeared on Swift’s Lover.

While the singer described her matchup with Swift as a “really casual” jam session, she says that her interaction with McCartney during the “Women And Wives” recording process was a total dream come true. In fact, Clark—who has been a fan of the former Beatle for years—ranks it as a top moment.

“After it was all done and everything, Paul called me to thank me and tell me that he liked it!” she tells NME. “It was the best moment of my life… maybe? I mean, I don’t… I don’t know where to put that. One thing that occurred to me was, think about how many hours of enjoyment in the world have happened as a result of Paul McCartney’s music. Lifetimes and lifetimes of hours that people have spent listening to his work.

“At the end of the conversation, he said, ‘It’s a great thing that we get to do, this music thing, right?’” she continues in the interview. “I was like, ‘Yes Paul—yes it is.’”

This isn’t the first time McCartney has praised the singer, giving her a shout-out during a Reddit AMA around the release of the original McCartney III in December. One fan asked McCartney about the music that inspires him, which artists he listens to currently and who he could see himself collaborating with.

“I’m lucky, I have a friend who sends me new music, which helps me keep in touch with the modern scene,” McCartney writes on Reddit. “So I listen to people like Dominic Fike, Beck, St. Vincent and Khruangbin. I also listen to a lot of classic oldies coming through, from rock n’ roll to ’60s to soul to R&B with a sprinkling of classical music now and then.”

Little did fans know at the time, but McCartney was indded working with St. Vincent, Fike, Beck and Khruangbin as all of the artists appear on McCartney III Imagined. Khruangbin reworks “Pretty Boys,” Fike has given “The Kiss Of Venusan update and Beck is giving his own spin on “Find My Way.”

More on St. Vincent

We’re over a month out from St. Vincent’s follow-up to the Grammy Award-winning MASSEDUCTION. The upcoming sixth LP Daddy’s Home will mark her first album in nearly four years.

Ahead of its release, Clark opened up to Mojo about how she’s taking inspiration from the overall era and music of the ’70s.

“I felt I had gone as far as I could possibly go with angularity,” St. Vincent told Mojo in 2020. “I was interested in going back to the music I’ve listened to more than any other—Stevie Wonder records from the early ’70s, Sly And The Family Stone. I studied at the feet of those masters.”

In fact, St. Vincent recently released a playlist featuring many of the artists she took inspiration from for Daddy’s Home. With a mix that includes additional artists such as David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, Nina Simone, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones, the look inside the album makes it clear her influences were quite diverse.

St. Vincent debuted the first single off the release “Pay Your Way In Pain” in early March. The musician followed it up with “The Melting Of The Sun” on April 1, just days ahead of her return to the Saturday Night Live stage.

Previously performing in 2014, St. Vincent appeared alongside host and recent SAG Awardwinner Daniel Kaluuya on April 3. The singer brought her ’70s-inspired set to the iconic New York City stage, delivering entrancing performances of both singles. You can see the full set below.

Daddy’s Home drops May 14 via Loma Vista Recordings. The album is available in various physical formats including 8-track, CD, vinyl and cassette. Preorder are available now here.
