The sneakers, which are in collaboration with New York-based art collective MSCHF, are based on his fiery new video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).”

On Monday, Lil Nas X officially dropped the Satan-inspired Nikes, and it didn’t take long for almost all of the $1018 limited edition footwear to sell out. In fact, all of the pairs made available were gone in less than a minute after the collab launched.

The hellish shoes feature an Air Max 97 silhouette with a bronze pentagram, an inverted cross and Luke 10:18. The latter is a Bible passage about Satan falling from heaven. The black shoes also include one interesting design element–a drop of real human blood. A spokesperson for MSCHF told CNN that each drop of blood was donated by a member of their team.

Keeping with the Satan theme, only 666 pairs of shoes were made for the collaboration. As well, the $1,018 price tag for the Satan Shoes is presumably in reference to the Bible verse featured in the design.

According to CNN, MSCHF confirmed via email that every single pair of shoes sold out in under a minute after the collab launched on Monday. Although Lil Nas X will keep the first pair of shoes from the collection, he’s not the only familiar face who managed to snag the Satan sneakers.

This week, Miley Cyrus shared a few photos of her rocking the exclusive footwear on social media. Cyrus and Lil Nas X have been friends for years thanks to his Grammywinning collab with Billy Ray Cyrus on “Old Town Road – Remix.” Back in 2019, the duo even joined Cyrus onstage during her Glastonbury set for a performance of “Old Town Road – Remix.”

As well, Cyrus also brought her Black Mirror character Ashley O out of retirement for a “Panini” jam session with the rapper. More recently, Cyrus and Lil Nas X took part in a nostalgic exchange on TikTok that was all about Hannah Montana.

For fans who weren’t able to get their hands on the shoes, you’re in luck. MSCHF is holding a lottery on their website for one final pair of sneakers. The lucky winner will be announced April 1.

In an interview with Complex, Lil Nas X called the collaboration with MSCHF a “full-circle moment.”

“With my song and video, [the collab] was kind of like the perfect match-up. We came together, and this shoe is crazy,” Lil Nas X tells Complex. “This is a very fun collaboration, this shoe also looks amazing. I feel like a lot of people are going to love it, some are going to be mad or whatever…For me, people already demonize who I am and put me in a painting of, ‘OK, he’s evil. He’s doing this [or] he’s doing that.’ So, you know what? I’ll take that. I’ll be that and I’m going to make the most of that.”

Despite the fact that the Satan Shoes are modeled after a classic Nike design, the company has publicly stated it’s not affiliated with the footwear.

“We do not have a relationship with Lil Nas or MSCHF,” a representative for Nike tells Rolling Stone. “Nike did not design or release these shoes, and we do not endorse them.”

In fact, Nike has reportedly filed a lawsuit against MSCHF Product Studio for copyright infringement. According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Nike claims MSCHF tricked customers into thinking the shoes were approved by the sportswear company.

As well, Nike states that MSCHF purchased the Air Max 97 shoes before making modifications and reselling them at a higher price. Nike is not only suing for damages but also wants the judge to block all sales of the Satan Shoes.

“The material alterations include at least referring to the shoe as the Satan Shoe, adding red ink and human blood to the midsole, adding red embroidered satanic-themed detailing,” Nike’s lawsuit states via The Hollywood Reporter. “[As well as] adding a bronze pentagram to the laces and adding a new sock liner. There is already evidence of significant confusion and dilution occurring in the marketplace. [This includes] calls to boycott Nike in response to the launch of MSCHF’s Satan Shoes based on the mistaken belief that Nike has authorized or approved this product.”

Although Lil Nas X is not named in the suit, the rapper seemingly caught wind of it. On Monday, he shared his thoughts on Twitter using a SpongeBob SquarePants clip.

“Me after the Nike lawsuit,” Lil Nas X tweets.

The Satan Nikes are inspired by Lil Nas X’s latest video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).” The visual, which dropped Friday, has already earned a staggering 36 million views on YouTube at the time of writing.

The diabolical video shows Lil Nas X traveling through time in many different realms. Eventually, the rapper descends into the depths of hell and is welcomed by Satan. During his trip, Lil Nas X twerks on Lucifer before killing him and crowning himself the new ruler of hell. Of course, Lil Nas X’s Satan Shoes make their subtle debut in the “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” video. Satan can be seen wearing the controversial shoes as he sits on his fiery throne.

Last week, Lil Nas X revealed on Twitter why he decided to release a song with his real name in it and publicly come out as gay in 2019.

“Dear 14-year-old Montero, I wrote a song with our name in it,” he writes on Twitter. “It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret. But this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist. You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, this will say I’m pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future.”

Cardi B is the first female rapper to achieve this major music milestone https://www.altpress.com/cardi-b-is-the-first-female-rapper-to-achieve-this-major-music-milestone/ Wed, 10 Mar 2021 05:08:42 +0000 Back in 2017, Cardi B took the music world by a storm with her hit single “Bodak Yellow.” Now, it looks like the song is still dominating playlists and setting records four years later.

This week, “Bodak Yellowwas certified diamond by the RIAA, making Cardi B the first-ever female rapper to achieve this milestone.

Although Cardi B’s music career started long before “Bodak Yellow,” the 2017 single is what truly introduced her to the mainstream music world. Now, after topping charts and earning over 680 million Spotify streams, “Bodak Yellow” has officially been certified diamond by the RIAA.

This feat means the track has sold more than 10 million units in the U.S. since its release. As well, Cardi B is the first female rapper to achieve this RIAA certification. On March 8, Cardi B’s team shared her reaction to learning about the “Bodak Yellow” certification. After unveiling the new plaque, Cardi B can be heard saying, “It’s diamond? For real?”

A plaque for “WAP,” her collab with Megan Thee Stallion, can also be seen in the video. As of March 3, “WAP” is officially certified platinum by the RIAA. To date, the collab has sold over 5 million units in the United States.

Of course, this isn’t the first historic RIAA certification for Cardi B. In 2018, every single song on her album Invasion Of Privacy was certified by the RIAA, a feat that had never been accomplished by a female artist before.

Just three months after it was released as a single, “Bodak Yellow” dethroned Post Malone and 21 Savage‘s “rockstar” for the coveted No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 2017. This accomplishment made her the first female rapper to top the chart without the assistance of any credited artists in nearly 19 years. Prior to this, Lauryn Hill reached No.1 all of the way back in 1998.

That same month, Cardi B also topped Taylor Swift‘s “Look What You Made Me Do” on the Billboard Hot 100. This feat made Cardi B just the fifth female rapper to earn a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1. In 2018, “Bodak Yellow” earned Cardi B two Grammy nominations for both Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. However, Kendrick Lamar‘s “HUMBLE.took home the award in both categories.

In 2019, Cardi B snagged another four Grammy nominations including Record Of The Year for “I Like It” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin. As well, “Be Careful” was up for Best Rap Performance, her collab with Maroon 5 on “Girls Like You” was included in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category and Invasion Of Privacy was nominated for Best Rap Album. In the end, she scored her first Grammy win for Best Rap Album that year.

Last year, she earned a Best Rap Performance nomination for “Clout,” her collab with Offset. However, Roddy Ricch, Nipsey Hussle and Hit-Boy‘s “Racks In The Middle” won that particular Grammys category.

Since the release of “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B’s career has soared. This past year, “WAP,” her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, took over both the charts and TikTok. After debuting at No. 1 on the Hot 100, the duo quickly earned backlash for their song.

Tiger King star Carole Baskin raised concerns over the treatment of the wild cats in the luxurious “WAP” video. Soon after, comedian Russell Brand also weighed in on the “WAP” controversy. However, his critiques of the song’s meaning and video quickly sparked some backlash of their own.

Of course, a lot of individuals got creative with “WAP” online this past year. Last September, Biffy Clyro debuted their own version of the chart-topping single. Soon after its release, the cover divided the internet over whether or not white men should be covering a song that’s essentially about female empowerment.

Along with a viral Hannah Montana TikTok remix of “WAP” and Jack Black‘s unforgettable dance routine to the song, Cardi B even got involved with the online “WAP” content. A parody tweet inspired by Plain White T‘s “Hey There Delilah” from Callous DaoboysCarson Pace caught the rapper’s attention, sparking a viral Twitter moment no one was expecting.

Cardi B’s domination in music is far from over.  She is among the performers for this year’s Grammy Awards. Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, HAIM, Harry Styles and Doja Cat are just a few of the other artists scheduled to perform this weekend. The 2021 Grammys ceremony kicks off on Sunday, Mar. 14 at 5 p.m. PT/ 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Miley Cyrus credits these artists for paving the way for female rock musicians https://www.altpress.com/miley-cyrus-credits-these-artists-for-paving-the-way-for-female-rock-musicians/ Sat, 06 Mar 2021 04:40:08 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/miley-cyrus-credits-these-artists-for-paving-the-way-for-female-rock-musicians/ Last year, Miley Cyrus truly stepped into the world of rock ‘n’ roll with her new album Plastic Hearts.

Now, in a new interview on Rock This with Allison Hagendorf, Cyrus has revealed how rock music has influenced her from a very young age. As well, she shared which artists she credits for paving the way for this new generation of female rock musicians.

Over the years, we’ve seen Miley Cyrus evolve as an artist. From her early days on Hannah Montana to her highly publicized Bangerz era, Cyrus is a musical chameleon who has never been afraid to try something new. Her latest album Plastic Hearts marks a major departure from the country-pop roots heard on 2017’s Younger Now. In fact, this recent release showcases Cyrus in a way fans have never seen her before.

For Plastic Hearts, Cyrus joined forces with music icons Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks and Billy Idol for several explosive collaborations. Last month, Cyrus even reunited with Joan Jett and Billy Idol for the TikTok Tailgate show ahead of the Superbowl.

During her rock-filled headlining set, Cyrus performed “Bad Karma” with Jett and “Night Crawling,” her collab with Idol. Her set also included covers of Bikini Kill, Dolly Parton, Blondie and even that Nine Inch Nails cover.

In a new interview with Allison Hagendorf for the Rock This podcast, Cyrus shared that her dad—Billy Ray Cyrus—introduced her to strong female artists from a young age. As a result, she never grew up with the notion that rock ‘n’ roll was only made for men.

“My dad’s jukebox, when like Waylon Jennings or Johnny Cash would come over, he didn’t really have country singing dudes on his jukebox, to be honest,” she says. “My dad had Etta James [and he] made me listen. I never could appreciate it until I was older. [He] drove me to work every single day because we grew up working together. And my dad had one CD in his car and it was Etta James. And I listened to it for four years and it was Etta. It was Stevie, it was Joan, it was Debbie [Harry]. It was always female rock and rollers. And I never grew up with that stigma, a stereotype that rock ‘n’ roll was made for dudes.”

In fact, Cyrus goes on to say several notate female rock artists have inspired her for years. For her, the risks Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna and Joan Jett took throughout their careers heavily paved the way for her and this new generation of female rock musicians. As well, both of these artists helped inspire the rock music we hear today.

“Some of my favorite artists, their music has always been political,” Cyrus says. “Their activism has been in their performances and their style of entertaining. Kathleen Hanna, I mean, she was writing like ‘slut’ across her chest and in many schools wearing a pair of panties while singing rock and roll music at the same time that people were lining up to see mainly dudes perform rock music. I mean, even for Joan, she was told like, ‘get rid of the guitar. We’re not looking for an artist like this. You know, if you’re ever going to make it, drop the guitar, drop the leather, be more feminine.’

I love the way that Kathleen, also, I feel [she] was kind of self-deprecating and there was a humor to it. But also there was a demand for action. And I do think that it was almost kind of like creating policies. And I think that politics and music, there is a marriage there. I think there is something about old-fashioned entertainment escapism. There are times where that’s what you want from your music, but there are times where you also want demand and you want there to be a reflection of what’s happening politically or culturally in your music. And Kathleen’s a big inspiration for that.”

Over the past year, Cyrus has paid tribute to numerous female artists in the rock genre. Her latest album includes her previously released covers of Blondie‘s “Heart Of Glass” and the Cranberries’ “Zombie.” As well, she also covered Hole‘s “Doll Parts” late last year. The emotional cover eventually earned a response from Courtney Love who had nothing but good things to say about it.

“Miley Cyrus was very sweet and I am touched,” Love said.

Although Plastic Hearts is out, Cyrus’ time in rock music is far from over. Currently, Cyrus is working on a Metallica covers album. Prior to the release of Plastic Hearts, Cyrus revealed that Metallica are one of the bands that inspired the sound on her new rock album. Shortly after, she confirmed that she is officially recording a Metallica covers album.

“We’ve been working on a Metallica covers album and I’m here working on that,” she told Interview Magazine in October 2020.

Then, at the beginning of January, we learned that the Andrew Watt-produced covers LP includes some A-list collabs.

“I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on piano,” she says. “I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith [Red Hot Chili Peppers]; so many all-stars. I’m so excited about this collaboration. I’m really stoked. I love when ingredients don’t quite fit.”

Along with all of this, Cyrus is starting a new chapter in her career. This week, it was announced that she has left RCA Records and signed to Columbia Records.

Miley Cyrus just responded to Lil Nas X’s ‘Hannah Montana’ TikTok—watch https://www.altpress.com/miley-cyrus-just-responded-to-lil-nas-xs-hannah-montana-tiktok-watch/ Wed, 03 Mar 2021 02:10:54 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/miley-cyrus-just-responded-to-lil-nas-xs-hannah-montana-tiktok-watch/ Earlier this week, Lil Nas X channeled his inner Disney star in a hilarious TikTok poking fun at Hannah Montana.

Now, it looks like Miley Cyrus has seen the TikTok and has a few things to say about it.

In case you didn’t know, Miley Cyrus and Lil Nas X are pretty good friends. This is largely due to Lil Nas X’s chart-topping collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus on “Old Town Road – Remix.” In fact, the trio even performed the iconic collab together during Miley Cyrus’ Glastonbury set in 2019. During the set, Cyrus also covered a Metallica classic which appears on her upcoming Metallica covers album.

Now, it looks like Lil Nas X is bringing back Cyrus’ Disney past. Earlier this week, Lil Nas X posted a TikTok parody poking fun at Hannah Montana. The brief visual shows Lil Nas X re-enacting a scene where Miley decides she doesn’t want to be Hannah Montana anymore. As a result, she takes off the blonde wig that somehow managed to conceal her identity for so many years.

The TikTok, which is captioned “I hope Miley don’t block me for this,” has already been viewed over 12 million times on the video-sharing platform.

@lilnasxi hope miley don’t block me for this♬ CALL ME BY YOUR NAME BY LIL NAS X – not lil nas x

Naturally, the video made its rounds on the internet and eventually caught the attention of Miley Cyrus. Of course, Cyrus had the best response to Lil Nas X poking fun at Hannah Montana. Rather than getting defensive, Cyrus also makes fun of Hannah Montana and her “crying wolf” wig reveals fans of the show will be familiar with.

“Again? The old Hannah reveal is losing its shock value,” Cyrus says. “You do this every fucking week, Miley.”

Cyrus also seemingly gives a nod to her Hannah Montana co-star in the video. She can be seen wearing a pastel purple wig that Lily, played by Emily Osment, wore various times in the Disney series.

“What Lily is really thinking when Miley presses send on ANOTHER Hannah reveal,” the video caption says.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Hannah Montana has inspired TikToks in recent months. Last summer, one TikToker decided to mashup the “Best of Both Worlds” with Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP.” Naturally, the surprising mashup earned a lot of different reactions online.

These 10 memes perfectly sum up the 2020 election https://www.altpress.com/best-2020-election-memes/ Mon, 09 Nov 2020 20:55:54 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/best-2020-election-memes/ Well, folks, it has been one hell of an election week, right? The U.S. and the world all reacted to the news that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris secured enough votes from the Electoral College for a presidential win.

Biden and Harris experienced a historic win. The president-elect is the oldest person to hold the office, while the future VP is the first Black, South Asian American and woman to hold the position in the White House. Additionally, the two garnered more than 75 million votes, a record-breaking amount of ballots cast.

Donald Trump is one of the few incumbent presidents who did not win reelection. Additionally, he’s the only president in history to hold one term, lose the popular vote and be impeached.

Despite the roller coaster of political information and news many of us processed this past week, Twitter and Instagram pulled up with some fabulous memes to help us cope with all the election anxiety. Here are 10 that are *chef’s kiss* and perfect for summing up this wild week.

How to make the blue wave happen

https://twitter.com/SOTSPodcast/status/1324441259960918019?s=20

Many political pundits expected a “blue wave” to arrive following Trump’s chaotic four years in the White House. The race was tighter than expected, but memes were created to show what Biden could say to make everyone vote for him. Our unbiased favorite is definitely this fake promise to bring back Warped Tour.

When we were all waiting on Nevada for days

https://twitter.com/Fothousands/status/1324231136415940610?s=20

If you know, you know. We were all on the edge of our seats waiting for Nevada to be called for Biden. This call would have perfectly set up Biden for victory as president with enough electoral votes to lock him into the 270 he needed. However, Pennsylvania was called for Biden, making him the 46th president of the United States. The joke was on us for waiting for Nevada for hours and days on end.

Waiting, waiting, waiting…

The contestants of The Great British Bake Off portray how everyone was refreshing their Twitter feeds and Google searches, waiting for more answers and numbers. We knew it would take more than one night to tally votes, but we still kept our eyes on CNN and AP as much as possible.

Which count do we need to stop?

Trump tweeted a very subtle, “STOP THE COUNT!” Nov. 5 as he declared absentee ballots “illegal.” This is untrue, and statements surrounding that sentiment were flagged on his profile. In response to this tweet, jokes and memes popped up featuring Sesame Street character “Count von Count.” Other memes even depict the puppet vampire hitting Trump in the face.

Gritty becomes a symbol of Philly swinging the election left

Philadelphia is one of the cities in Pennsylvania that turned the whole state in favor of Biden. Many Americans are giving credit to Gritty, the wacky mascot for the Philadelphia Flyers. Gritty costumes and signs were even seen across the city when the election results were announced. There are too many hilarious memes, so here are four just to start.

Charlie Day and Steve Kornacki have a lot in common

https://twitter.com/brettacollett/status/1324580899569225728?s=20

NBC correspondent Steve Kornacki is in love with math and politics, so Election Day (and week) has been his Super Bowl. He has stood in front of big maps for hours on end, examining states and individual counties on their votes. Kornacki denied food and water breaks to keep projecting on camera and simply refused to go home. Toward the end of the week, viewers started comparing him to Charlie Day‘s character from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. In fact, the It’s Always Sunny cast hopped in on the election meme train when they saw their namesake city turn blue. They saw a “Flip, Flip Flipadelphia” come to life.

Everyone now simping for cable newscasters

Gen Z has discovered cable newscasters and is falling madly in love with people such as Kornacki, Chris Cuomo, Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper and more. Several memes resemble something like this, while some TikTokers went full fancam mode. If this is how the youths engage in politics, so be it!

Parks And Rec fans had a moment

If you’re a fan of the hit sitcom Parks And Recreation, you may recall that Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) was in love with former VP and president-elect Biden. Fans are now wondering if somewhere in the world, the character is celebrating. Or passed out on the floor.

Hannah Montana quotes making a comeback

If you grew up in the era of mid-2000s Disney shows, you may remember Hannah Montana‘s on again-off again BF Jake Ryan (Cody Linley) saying, “No Mr. Trump. You’re fired!” followed by a cheesy laugh track. People have been waiting to use this clip for years honestly, and it definitely took over Twitter. Miley Cyrus also had a great day when election results came in. Her song “Party In The U.S.A.reentered the iTunes Top 200 chart after Biden was declared the president-elect.

Nathan For You vibes coming from the Trump campaign

https://twitter.com/OkSteev/status/1325242969717436421?s=20

If you’ve been following the news, you may know that the Trump administration scheduled a press conference Friday at Four Seasons Total Landscaping instead of the famous Four Seasons Hotels And Resorts. Many laughed at this conundrum and were reminded of Comedy Central‘s show Nathan For You along the way.

10 times artists completely changed their sound for the better https://www.altpress.com/artists-changed-genres/ Wed, 04 Nov 2020 17:55:17 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/artists-changed-genres/ Defining artists with genres is futile, as new music seems to progressively blend and smash traditional genres out the window.

And it’s not even just experimental artists who are doing it. Some of our favorite musicians have tried out a bunch of different sounds and have evolved over time to make genres of their own creation.

Read more: Here’s how Ticketmaster plans to implement social distancing at future gigs

We’ve decided to round up 10 times artists tried out different genres for the better to prove that no one, not even record-breaking musicians, can be put in a box. You can check those out below.

Poppy

If you need one solid example that genres are a thing of the past, look at Poppy. She’s made a clear transition from making pop songs to metal music in the past couple of years. Now, she blends rock, electronic, pop and more to create tracks that can only be described as Poppy. If you look back into the depths of YouTube to hear her old bubblegum-pop songs, she’s definitely progressed for the better with her hardcore/metal tracks, starting with her latest album, I Disagree.

Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly made a huge transition this year when he released his fifth album, Tickets To My Downfall, which was filled with pop-punk tracks. While the musician has delved into the genre in the past with rock-driven tracks and by collabing with artists such as Travis Barker and YUNGBLUD, the release leaned even further into his alternative influences. Even though he can spit bars as good as any rapper, there’s something about his vocal style that makes him fit in so perfectly in the scene. If you don’t believe us, just listen to him sing on “forget me too” featuring Halsey and try to tell us different. If the album’s No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 is any indication, fans are loving it too.

Paramore

While Paramore will always be considered pioneers in the pop-punk scene, 2017’s After Laughter was a diversion that worked. The record, which still contained the heart-wrenching and relatable lyrics we know from the band, took inspiration from ’80s pop. While some people missed the band’s heavier tracks, the narrative behind After Laughter is the clearest, and it’s one of their most honest albums. If anything, it proves that Paramore can always get their message across and sound good while doing it. We can’t wait to see what they do next which, hopefully, if eagle-eyed fans are right, will be sometime soon.

Bring Me The Horizon

After a three-year hiatus, Bring Me The Horizon dropped amo in 2019 and showed they could succeed in making music that isn’t metal. The record takes on electronic, pop and rock influences with ease. After listening to it, you’ll wonder why it took them so long to experiment with those genres to begin with. While some people weren’t fans of their stray from metal, which Oli Sykes even addresses in the song appropriately titled “heavy metal,” it only reminds you that you can’t put them in a box. It’s obvious from this album that the band have a lot more to show us, which makes us even more excited to hear their upcoming four-part anthology project, POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR.

Vic Mensa

Vic Mensa is an expert at flip-flopping genres seamlessly. He dropped a rap EP in 2018, a punk project and album, 93PUNX, in 2019 and then another rap EP this year without missing a beat. But it doesn’t matter which genre he’s creating music in or who he’s collabing with. His overall message of social justice and criticizing the current social and political state of the world always shines through.

YUNGBLUD

YUNGBLUD makes music with a meaning, not a genre. He’s shifted his sound several times, mixing alternative, pop, rock, indie, hip-hop and more. No matter the sound, he always has a bigger message and advocates for issues he believes in. If you had to label it, especially in 2020, YUNGBLUD makes protest songs and fight anthems. We’re sure that he’ll blur genre lines even further with his upcoming album, Weird!, when it arrives.

Fall Out Boy

Finding the perfect genre to describe Fall Out Boy is harder than you’d think. They’re emo veterans at their core but have always sounded distinctly different from other genre acts. With their more recent releases, particularly their 2018 album, MANIA, it’s easier to describe them as rock, but with undeniable electronic, alternative and pop influences. While some people may miss FOB’s old pop-punk sound, they’re evolving by delving into other genres.

PVRIS

PVRIS are another band with rock roots who have heavily embraced an electronic sound, but no one’s doing it quite like them. With their 2020 release, Use Me, where vocalist Lynn Gunn took the reins, PVRIS delivered one of their most vulnerable and complex-sounding records to date. If performed by another band, you could classify some of the songs as outright pop tracks. But Gunn’s vocals keep it grounded in the alternative realm despite the shift.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus went from Disney star/country singer to a pop star to a hip-hop artist to a rock vocalist in a matter of years and only gets better with every progression. Once performing under the Hannah Montana moniker, Cyrus has grown up, and so has her music. She’s preparing to drop her first-ever rock album, Plastic Hearts, in November, which has been in the works for two years. Cyrus has said it’s a new chapter in her life, and knowing how she’s completely bodied rock cover songs by Metallica and other veterans in the past, we’re anticipating this may be her best record yet.

Travis Barker

While Travis Barker has never strayed from his roots of drumming for blink-182, he’s expanded the genre pool that he works in throughout his career. He’s gone from working on projects such as +44 and Box Car Racer to collabing with Halsey, MGK, nothing, nowhere. and more. It doesn’t matter which genre of song he’s playing on because you can always tell that it’s Barker’s signature sound.

10 shows and movies that shouldn’t be getting remakes https://www.altpress.com/tv-show-movie-reboots-2020/ Tue, 27 Oct 2020 22:15:47 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/tv-show-movie-reboots-2020/ If there’s anything we’ve learned about the entertainment industry in the past five years or so, it’s that reboots are big business. It doesn’t matter if it’s a childhood classic film or a beloved throwback sitcom. People love to watch remakes of things they’ve already seen, so Hollywood continues to produce them.

However, while there are plenty of reboots that are appropriate and timely, there are some movies and TV shows that are too perfect and shouldn’t be messed with in any form or fashion.

We’re defending 10 shows and movies that shouldn’t be remade, for the sake of our nostalgia. You can check those out below.

She’s All That

There’s currently a remake of this ’90s rom-com in the works, but the protagonist will be a man. The film titled He’s All That will follow an influencer, played by TikTok star Addison Rae, who gives a nerdy boy a makeover, played by Cobra Kai’s Tanner Buchanan. Honestly, it just sounds like a recipe for disaster. It’s already trying to be overly relevant to young people by casting TikTok celebrities, and the original She’s All That is a masterpiece in itself.

Gossip Girl

The remake of this popular teen drama series is quite controversial given that it only ended in 2012. Because the original Gossip Girl had so many die-hard fans, they may be less inclined to give an updated version a chance. While we applaud the showrunners for trying to add diversity to a series that starred a mostly white cast, the OG Gossip Girl worked because it had all the mid-’00s quirks.

The Craft

The original ’90s film was a cult classic for Halloween lovers and creepy kids everywhere. Hence, we cannot imagine an updated version of it. The Craft’s plot is quintessentially ’90s, and after the first The Craft: Legacy trailer, we can see this taking a turn and being a cheesy reboot about witches we can’t relate to.

Pretty Little Liars

First of all, Pretty Little Liars hasn’t been off the air long enough to warrant a reboot. It stopped in 2017, so it hasn’t even been a solid five years without it on the air. Because it was such a long-running show to begin with, with two short-lived spinoffs, Ravenswood and The Perfectionists, it naturally lost its luster. Despite having Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa at the helm, a reboot will only rekindle criticism that this show is overrated.

Hannah Montana

According to Billy Ray Cyrus, a Hannah Montana spinoff prequel may be in the works, and we just want to know why. The original Disney Channel show didn’t start off on a bad foot—we grew up with Miley Cyrus on screen. While a prequel may give more information about how she took on the Hannah Montana persona in the first place, who really even cares anymore?

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air

The upcoming Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reboot is transforming into a drama this time around. While we’re excited about the prospects, if this is bad, it’ll be really bad. The original show was a classic sitcom that shaped TV, so if the reboot tanks, it could be another Full House/Fuller House situation. But hopefully Will Smith can lead this in a positive direction.

Clueless

Honestly, this remake is a joke. It’s like when they released Mean Girls 2 and nobody cared. Clueless is is one of the biggest cult-favorite movies ever, and a cheesy remake will only make us absolutely hate it.

Saved By The Bell

This Saved By The Bell remake will surround a new group of kids at Bayside High who come from various social and economic backgrounds. The premise of the show itself doesn’t sound bad—it’s the fact that it’s being dubbed as a reboot that brings it down. People loved Saved By The Bell for what it is. So they could love a show with a similar premise of the reboot all on its own, too.

Hocus Pocus

This is the most offensive remake to us. Hocus Pocus is the No. 1 Halloween movie, and it’s perfect in every single way. We don’t need new witches, new songs or new effects. Everyone involved in this project just needs to take a step back, watch the original a few times and remember that they can never top it.

Rugrats

This childhood classic will be rebooted next year. Again, we don’t see the reason for it. Rugrats was an essential show for us as children, but it seems like that moment has come and gone. An updated version just won’t work, and it’d be better if these resources were used to make an entirely new, and more relevant, show for kids nowadays.

The internet is divided over Biffy Clyro’s rock take on “WAP” https://www.altpress.com/biffy-clyro-wap-rock-cover/ Fri, 04 Sep 2020 00:21:45 +0000 https://www.altpress.com/biffy-clyro-wap-rock-cover/ Biffy Clyro recently joined BBC for a Live Lounge performance. For the set, they decided to take on the worldwide hit “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.

For the cover, Biffy Clyro renamed the viral single to “WAB” which stands for “wet as Biffy” and gave it a rock-inspired spin. The internet, however, is now divided over the band’s recent performance.

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” has been transformed in various covers, parodies, mashups and TikTok videos since its release. Most recently, one TikToker did an unexpected mashup of the song with Hannah Montana‘s “Best Of Both Worlds” that oddly works.

Biffy Clyro decided to take on the megahit for their recent BBC Live Lounge appearance. The band performed the cover along with “Tiny Indoor Fireworks” in support of their new album A Celebration Of Endings.

The “WAP” cover, however, isn’t going down exactly as the band might have hoped. For the performance, they renamed the song to “WAB” which stands for “wet as Biffy” and gave a rock-inspired rendition that transforms the track.

Despite some not enjoying its sound, many listeners were both surprised and entertained by Biffy Clyro’s cover this week.

Others, however, think Biffy Clyro shouldn’t have covered “WAP” to begin with. As a female-empowerment anthem performed by two Black women, some argue that the all-male band should’ve picked a different song to perform on Live Lounge. As well, other listeners argue that the “WAP” cover is just, well, bad.

Biffy Clyro’s cover comes a few weeks after Russell Brand was criticized for his comments about “WAP.” The comedian shared a lengthy video debating on if the Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion collab is truly a feminist anthem or simply “porn.”

This Hannah Montana and “WAP” mashup is the best of both worlds https://www.altpress.com/hannah-montana-wap-tiktok-mashup/ Fri, 28 Aug 2020 23:11:15 +0000 A new Hannah Montana mashup with Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP” has emerged onto TikTok and, well, it sounds better than you’d probably expect.

TikToker @Omfgrant (a.k.a. Grant Whitson) shared his “mashup nobody asked for” called “The Best Of Both WAPs” this week.

After all these years, Miley Cyrus‘ claim-to-fame Hannah Montana is still one of Disney‘s most popular shows. In the series, viewers watch the squeaky clean Miley Ray Stewart live her double life as the pop superstar Hannah Montana.

Now, Hannah Montana is trading in her G-rated persona and Mickey Mouse ears for a new “WAP” mashup. Whitson has taken the instrumental music from Hannah Montana’s hit “Best Of Both Worlds” and mashed it together with Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s viral collab “WAP.”

Now, obviously, the two songs couldn’t be more different. However, Whitson somehow makes it work and has created a NSFW track that would make most Disney execs uncomfortable. Also, he gives a subtle nod to the company in the video with his t-shirt.

Outside of being mashed up with Disney pop anthems, “WAP” has been at the center of some controversy.

Recently, comedian Russell Brand decided to post a video debating on whether or not the single’s video is truly feminist and simply “porn.” His comments led to backlash from former fans and others in the industry. As well, Tiger King star Carole Baskin has also spoken out about the video’s use of wild cats.

Despite the controversy, “WAP” is doing incredibly well. Since the video’s release on Aug. 6, it has been viewed over 146 million times. “WAP” is also doing well on streaming services such as Spotify where its been streamed over 120 million times.

Outside of music, Cardi B is getting involved in the upcoming presidential election. The rapper and Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden recently discussed his plans to bring change to America in a new interview.

Meanwhile, Cyrus recently unveiled her new single “Midnight Sky.” She also gave a nod to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s hit collab on Instagram.
